While I'm on the theme of 80's "real-world" superhero TV shows I barely recall, how about I-Man, starring Scott Bakula? This was an unsold pilot produced by Disney that they ended up showing on the Disney channel as their movie of the week several times.
I remember a lot about the pilot. He gained his healing-factor (his only power) by risking his life to save a driver from a NASA truck that was about to blow, darkness was his weakness, and his son ended up being his side-kick, as we learned late in the episode that he had gained healing powers too.
I didn't realize this was Scott Bakula until years later, when IMDB finally came around.
