"Those two know how to make silly Silver Age shenanigans a whole lot of fun. I also respect their dedication, updating it regularly over the course of five months thus far."
"Like the best review threads, it is comprehensive and detailed, but shax also offers a measured blend of passion and dispassion toward its subject that makes it stand out. He does have a dog (bat?) in this fight, and yet he does not let that color his frequent displeasure with the writing and editing of the series and stories he dissects. I love his ability to give us a close-up of each story and issue while simultaneously showing us their places in the larger context of the various series he reviews."
"Not only does it provide the pertinent facts pertaining to each story, it provides some fascinating facts, trivia and historical context."
"a deep and thoroughly considered exploration of Marvel's foray into a genre I know next to nothing about. It was fascinating, captivating, and so original in its research and considerations. It truly raised the bar for CCC review threads."
"I've been waiting a long time for chadwilliam to bring his deep knowledge, incisive analyses, and outrageous wit to a review thread of his own, and I couldn't be more pleased with the results in Peer into the Eyes of The Spectre. He takes such simplistic stories and gives them far more thought than Bailey and Siegel ever did. Most impressive yet, he's taken a run that most of us have never read nor given much consideration to, and generated lively discussion with many active participants, each bringing their own unique perspectives to the discussion. It's a total pleasure to follow and participate in. Well done, Chad!"
"I find the level of depth in Confessor's reviews to be utterly fascinating and so carefully considered. I almost feel like I get more out of the series reading his thoughts than I would reading the actual work myself. It encourages me to read and enjoy sequential art on a deeper level in general; it teaches me how to think about what I read."
"One of the series I missed out on in the 90's. A nice concise assessment of a great series." -- Michael James
"The series runs the gamut from the ridiculous to the sublime, and Our Fearless Leader's issue-by-issue analysis reflects and celebrates that." -- Cei-U!
"I've fallen waaay behind on keeping up with it but I love both his insight and the over all format of his reviews." -- thwhtguardian
"it is well written, show cogent analysis, is fairly objective, provides lots of samples of art and provokes a lot of conversation. There a lot of amazing review threads that deserve attention, and I'm sure a lot of them will get nominated; I wanted to make sure this one got some love." -- mrp
