That's great if it's bringing in new and/or younger readers, sometimes I think that's a demographic that the Big Two have overlooked quite a bit recently in their mad rush to produce the next BIGGEST event. While the idea of Deadpool becoming a genre unto himself worries me (hate the character), I'm more puzzled by all this recent hype/interest/portrayals of Gwen Stacy. Spider-Gwen, Gwenpool, she's made a major comeback for someone who's dead. (Although if you go by possible spoilers for the upcoming 'Dead No More' event in the Spider-titles, this may change as well) I'm guessing a lot of it is to do with the Amazing Spider-Man movies.

I think the first gwenpool appearance was a variant original sketch cover by Bachalo that got trending... He came up with it, and if not for that and the cuteness of it, we wouldn't be talking about the character here.

The artwork looks nice but it's a kind of story and premise that holds no interest for me. I don't find it cute or clever or fun or whatever it is they're going for. The idea of SpiderGwen and Gwenpool, like the Jane Foster Thor, seems completely wrong-headed to me: if you're going to bring Gwen Stacy back from the dead (it is her, I assume?) why not let her be herself? Or, if you want to make her a superhero, why shouldn't she be her own superhero, a unique character?
I care nothing for Deadpool, and very little for Spider-Man at this point, but riding on the coat-tails of an established male character is a sign of weakness, to me. I don't think this helps the cause of female representation in superhero comics at all.

To be fair, Spider-Gwen started out as a one-shot alternate universe Spider-Man during the Spider-Verse event. Everyone went nuts for the concept, so she got her own book.

Unless its Gwen Stacy in a swimming pool, I have little interest. And she must be drawn by Romita.

Wait, what? It's not really Gwen Stacy? A different Gwen then??
That's misleading. (And no, not really crazy over Spider-Gwen either).

Doesn't hold much interest to me, but if it is opening new markets and new demographics of readers to comics, then it is a good thing as far as I am concerned. Not every book has to appeal to my tastes and I couldn't afford to buy them all even if they did, so books that appeal to a different audience than I would be a part of are a good thing as far as I am concerned.

This comic was actually WAY talked up to me in the comic store I visited today.
the guy was selling it hard. . and he, the owner, and his wife, all said it was great fun (and that the concept is basically, a comic fan gets sucked into a "comic book" universe, so she decides to cause mayhem since she knows everyone's secrets and storylines).
not sure if that's an accurate description, because although I flipped thru a couple of issues, that $4.99 cover price ensured I did *not* pick it up.

An anon on /co/ described it perfectly as "kneejerk reaction by Marvel to the rising stardom of Harley Quinn", don't think he/she was too far off

I'll wait 6 months and skim through it in MU.
Otherwise, I have zero interest.

An anon on /co/ described it perfectly as "kneejerk reaction by Marvel to the rising stardom of Harley Quinn", don't think he/she was too far off So any super-hero (i.e. just about all of them) created after 1940 and was a knee-jerk reaction to the rising popularity of Superman should be similarly dismissed because of the reason for their creation I take it...and MArvel's entire output of the 60s started as a knee-jerk reaction by Marvel to the rising popularity of the recent DC super-hero revivals is ultimately worth no consideration either... hmmm good to know I can ignore every super-hero comic ever made because it was reacting to something else. You could pretty much kiss the entire comic book industry goodbye if nothing was done in reaction to the popularity of something else. -M

I gave in and snagged a high grade copy of the first issue at cover price, only because I know it's destined to go up, up, up in price.
I know guys...
I'm part of the problem aren't I.
I gave in! Damn you, cutesy Gurihuru art!
I'll blame it on this cosplay vid:
