While searching for info about del Rey, I came across current artist I hadn't heard of before, Jillian Tamaki. Her stuff looks reall good as well - anyone read anything of hers? Not everything is as lush and detailed as the full-page panel below but everything I've seen has been impressive. Do you think she drew this or was it a Greg Land type drawing?

I was wondering about that TA Hulk too. I like Frank Cho's art on superhero books but was a bit disappointed upon hearing this was to be his next series as I'm not really a fan of the various Hulks. What other regular characters appear in it, if any? if the supporting cast sounded interesting I might give it a chance anyway. I'm pretty sure Frank Cho is not going to be the permanent artist on TA Hulk. I'm pretty sure he's only drawing the first arc and then moving on. I think Marvel wanted to team him up with Greg Pak as a sort of all-star creative team to launch TA Hulk, and then switch him out with another artist once he completed his arc. It also conveniently gives them a Korean-American creative team behind a Korean-American character. From what I've read online, Cho is basically done with Marvel at this point and is moving on to creator-owned stuff and some DC work (he's currently doing covers for Wonder Woman).

I got the 'Timely Comics' book for Hulk (which is a floppy reprint of the 1st 3 issues for the price of one comic)... it was OK, but nothing too exciting. The main supporting character was his little sister.. who talks to him on a head set constantly ala TOny Stark's AI/Firestorm/Alfred in Batman these days. Remember when Superheroes didn't need support staff to make decisions?
She-Hulk was also in the 1st arc, but it's not clear if she is intended to be a recurring support character. I think they're going for a Hulk that likes being Hulk and is smart, but I feel like PAD did that with 'the Professor' version (Which was my favorite).. and did it better.

I would only buy it for the Cho artwork, as I don't like what I've seen or heard of the writer's work and I'm not a fan of the Hulk characters in general. With most creators I'd be glad to hear they're doing more independent work and less for the Big 2, but in Cho's case I think traditional superhero books are what he's best at so I'm a bit sorry to hear he's moving to DC, since I don't like their superhero characters as much as Marvel's.

Invisible Republic - anyone have an opinion on this Images series? I just looked at a few online images today because I saw the 2nd TP collection was out next week and thought they looked pretty good.

Invisible Republic is a political science fiction comic. A reporter is looking for a story on a planet where a rebel independence leader has been overthrown and by happenstance runs into a document on the background of the disposed ruler's youth that totally contradicts the current knowledge on the man. Obviously there are elements that don't want this knowledge known. The story works in two timelines based on the reporter and then in flashback about the rebel leader in the past. It wasn't bad, artwork is pretty solid. I read the first four issues of Invisible Republic off the shelf and missed a couple and have not gone back, but eventually would like to re-read them to see how they held up.
I got to give props to Image either way and support it for actually doing quite a bit of science fiction comics, even if they are perhaps not yet to that next level of quality yet. Science Fiction like Crime stories are hard to do in comic form I think because they have often been done so well in novels, short stories, film and TV. Part of the reason super hero comics I think were such a thing is for most decades, comics was the place you got those type of stories.

Is Mr. Lao from Agents of Atlas and Shou-Lao from Immortal Iron Fist supposed to be the same dragon?

earlThanks for the Invisible Republic post above. You've inspired me to try this. Sounds like exactly the kind of comic I want to read.

Is Mr. Lao from Agents of Atlas and Shou-Lao from Immortal Iron Fist supposed to be the same dragon? I have no idea but the wiki entry for Shou-Lao makes no mention of it. I see the character first appeared way back in Marvel Premiere #16 - you might get an answer in the Question thread on the Classics Board, Ask a Quick Question Here

What's the story on Ales Kot - which of his books do any of you recommend? I see the first Wolf TP is out - how's that one?

I haven't like what I read of him so far. I got the first couple issues of Wolf and found it to be nearly incomprehensible.. some of that was the art wasn't my taste, though.
He also did the last War Machine series, and basically tried to turn Jim Rhodes into Steel, which I didn't like at all, but more on theory that it was a badly written story. (it wasn't, just not very interesting).

Ales Kot is one of the few creators I will actively avoid.
I read his Change mini-series at Image, and like wildfire2099 said, it was nearly incomprehensible, and certainly not enjoyable.
I've bought his Zero but haven't read it yet.
I'm big on Valiant and thought, ok, he's writing the Dead Drop mini, so I'll try it.
It wasn't horrible, but it was weak.
That single story is the worst I've read in the entire Valiant line.
IMO, be very cautious.
Someone must like his stuff cause he's written some Avengers stories, so what do I know ?
