I've been re-reading Silver Star, in which the emphasis is less on the protagonist and more on the emergence of a new race of superior beings created by genetic engineering, with much of the focus of the series being on what super powered beings are still out there. There's also the cover to each issue in which, above the title "Silver Star," is always printed "The Next Breed". It's gotten me wondering if Kirby was toying with creating a multi-title self-contained universe around The Next Breed, much as he did with The Fourth World. Does anyone with more insight into Kirby than I have any thoughts on this?

I haven't seen anything that suggested Kirby wanted to expand 'The Next Breed' into an umbrella/family of books, but I am no expert. I think it's just intended as a Tagline though, in this context. Captain Victory from Pacific Comics always had 'In Defence of our Galaxy' above the title in a similar manner.

I think coinliius is correct, but knowing The King, I'm sure there were further plans in his heads.

So was there any connection between the Silver Star stuff and the material used by the creators working for Topps to create the Kirbyverse stuff there-(Secret City, TeenAgents, Bombast, Captain Glory, Nightglider, etc.) that they found in Kirby's notes and sketches, or in the KirbyGenesis stuff Dynamite did when they revived Silver Star and other Kirby properties, or even in the Galactic Bounty Hunters stuff Lisa Kirby oversaw with Marvel's ICon built on leftover ideas from Jack?
All those were based on either unused Kirby material/idea, or stuff from later in his career when Silver Star was done, so I would imagine if there is anything about the Next Breed as more than a marketing tag in Kirby's plans, it would have manifested in those works in some form or other (hell their could even be something in the Phantom Force stuff that came out through Image and then Thibodeaux's self published imprint.
I have been picking up a lot of that stuff recently (well all except the Dynamite stuff) but haven't got around to reading it yet as there are still holes in a lot of the runs.

If you guys wait around long enough, I might get to it in another three years, but I'd be fascinated to follow and read along with such a thread if someone started it sooner!

I have all of the Pacific Comics Silver Star and Captain Victory's, all of the Topps Comics Kirbyverse stuff and all of the Dynamite Kirby Genesis material, plus the more recent Joe Casey written reboot/relaunch/whatever of Captain Victory. I also have the Lisa Kirby written Galactic Bounty Hunters. I don't have nay of Jack Kirby's DC stuff or the return to Marvel stuff, although I am very much considering it. I've also purchased and am waiting on scripts from the unpublished Captain Victory comic that Steve Engleheart was working on for Topps that was ultimately never published (Steve Engleheart seems to be a great guy, too, it was a pleasure buying from him). I'm tempted to pick up the adaptation/completion of Galaxy Green that was done in France as well (I've painstakingly translated french comics before, when I was tracking down comics related to Filmation's Blackstar cartoon series). I don't have the graphite editions of Silver Star and Captain Victory, yet, still thinking about getting them as they have the original movie treatments in them as well.
What can I say, I went on a Kirby binge recently which started out based around Captain Victory and expanded to include the Kirbyverse attempts! Not sure about doing a review thread though, as I don't know if I would be able to do such a thread justice...

Let's see let's try to piece together what would be the post-Marvel exodus Kirby Ouvre...
at DC you had the Fourth World books...
New Gods Jimmy Olsen Forever People Mister Miracle
then the follow ups...
Kamandi OMAC Demon
plus some random stuff like the First Issue Special stuff (Atlas, Green Team, Manhunter, Dingbats of Danger Street) the first issue of Kobra, the random issue of Richard Dragon he pencilled, the first issue of Sandman and probably some stuff I am forgetting.
The return to Marvel was Eternals, Captain America, Black Panther, Devil Dinosaur, 2001 A Space Odyssey and Machine Man I believe, plus the Surfer GN with Stan Lee put out by Fireside. Well and a slew of covers.
Then we have the Pacific stuff (Capt. Victory and Silver Star), Destroyer Duck with Gerber at Eclipse and his brief return to DC to do Super Powers, the Hunger Dogs GN, and the last chapter of New Gods which is new material appearing in the last issue of the Baxter reprint series of New Gods (#6 I believe which reprints #11 and shows what Jack would have done next ignoring the 70s revival of the New Gods by DC after Kirby left).
After that we have the Kirby pastiches, apocrypha, and revivals based on his unpublished notes and drawings.
So to the more knowledgeable Kirby aficionados...what am I missing from the list?
-M
PS oh yeah and the recently published previously unseen Lords of Light art that Heavy Metal put out last year...
additions/corrections
Spirit World In the Days of the Mob The Losers in Our Fighting Force Blitzkrieg?

Does anyone have the Silver Star Graphite Edition? I don't have it, but I know it contains several extras about the Silver Star series, including early concept sketches, screenplays and more.
