I'm digging the X-Men banner. Maybe next week rotate to a Superman banner?

I like this one, but I liked the others too... I'm more a fan of having them rotate then having an official one, but I understand why you'd want to have something to identify the site.
Have you considered something a bit more distinctive, that's big with everyone here (Usagi or Conan come to mind.. maybe even Archie).

X-Men??? UGH! Now I want Thor back. I like the rotating banner option but not too often. Change it every month to every quarter. A Marvel banner, then a Duck banner, then DC, then Archie and so on seems fine to me.

I haven't read any Usagi or Conan, but I have read plenty of Archie. Another option would be to use EC Comics covers or any other non-superhero stuff from the Golden Age.

While I'm a fan of trying to advertise this community's diversity, I don't want to make us appear too niche either. When I first found this community back at CBR, I didn't have any interest in non-superhero material. A Conan or EC cover might have turned me away. That's why I think we have to stick with familiar superheroes -- attract fans who are interested in classic popular stuff and then introduce them to a broader array of classic comic culture once they've joined.
I'm in favor of rotating the banner on special occasions, but (as several folks have noted here), I do feel it's important for this site to have an explicit visual identity most of the time. For casual posters alternating between online communities, I want the CCF to be distinct in their minds so that, even if they don't remember the name, they know that they had that awesome debate with Ish Kabbible or thwhtguardian at "the Thor site" (or whatever other banner we might end up using). Then they're more likely to come back and become a more active part of the community.
At the end of the day, we have two primary goals here:
1) Make the site nicer for (and a reflection of) the regular crew
2) Attract new members so that the community doesn't diminish over time.
Finding the balance is key.

Now that we have a nifty front page it helps identify the site. Personally,if one particular banner needs to be the default,I'd choose the multi cover one we had earlier.Lots of familiar and esoteric images.Shows diversity

I made a few banners that I thought a few people liked I still have yours and have been toying with them. I'm considering throwing two of them up over the course of the next few days. Essentially, though, isn't that exactly what we're doing here? I'm not tallying numbers, per se, but I am asking for input.I think the banners you've been putting up are fantastic, and I like the rotating banner idea...only if it doesn't involve too much work on your part.

You should include in your goals attracting the right people to the site.
I suspect the person on the internet who is drawn in by our Brother Power the Geek banner will fit in better the the person who likes Thor from the movies.
I would rather it be somebody less mainstream, but popular amongst classic folks.
For example: Ditko's Shade the Changing Man Cole's Plastic Man Kirby's Kamandi (or Eternals or New Gods or ...) Gulacy's Master of Kung Fu Golden's Micronauts etc.
Basically a character that feels more CCF than Thor or Batman or X-Men.

A photo of a stack of old comics would be cool. Maybe a longbox full of unbagged classics overflowing out the top

I have a suggestion that may work as a middle road. What if we had a Classic Comics Forum logo? Then we could rotate the banner however we wanted, but by affixing the logo to it, we'd still get the branding we want. I put together a sample logo and a sample banner to show what I mean. Sample logo: And here are a couple examples of the logo at work:

Or having the baner be something that evokes the old spinner racks like this topper.... or evoking the whole Hey Kids Comics vibe -M
