So I'm on our family's annual vacation. It's the end of a long day, and I'm sitting on the balcony of our hotel, looking over the pool, beach and stars, my wife's head on my shoulder, a good cigar in one hand, and a glass of whiskey in the other. On these nights, I sit back and feel utterly at peace with my life, taking in all that I love about it. I love my wife, I love my children, I love my career, and I love the life choices I've made. And, while feeling all of that, my mind also drifts to this place, this community, and my God I love you all so much. Twice this past week, friends pmed me to thank me for building this place. I just wanted you all to know how much thanks I have for YOU. You are my second family, this place my second home, and all the heartfelt sharing, the witty banter, the knowledge and passion offered freely, every single one of you who ever "liked" a post I made or replied to one -- I just had to pull out the phone and tell you how much you mean to me...all of you. What a special, special group we are; what a wonderful place we have made together. Thank you all for being a part of it and for occupying a place in my heart. And also a huge heartfelt thanks to the moderator team. When a job is well done, it's hard to notice it being done at all. I wish you all could know how much work, energy, and heart the mod team puts into making this place what it is. Behind the scenes, they have such love for this community and such respect for all of you. thwhtguardian , Confessor , DE Sinclair , Roquefort Raider , hondobrode ...such amazing people who do more for you, for me, and for this community than you will likely ever know. Thank you ALL of you for adding to the richness of my life. (And no, I'm not drunk)

Great opportunity to thank YOU, shax, for the colossal efforts you put in building this community from the ground up. I wish more of our political leaders showed as much integrity, vision and selflessness in promoting the well-being of us all.

This place and our section of the old CBR are and were the best places on the Internet. I know because as little as I've buying or reading comics I stil use this place as my own personal social media. You guys and gals are true friends and I value that. If money and logistics were not barriers I'd like to meet you all in person.
And I agree with Slam, Shax. :-) Lord knows I do it while posting sometimes.

LOL I have too at times If not for The House That Shax Built we'd all be adrift and this community wouldn't exist. I too am very glad to be a part of it and our little corner of the internet where people respect each other and share our love for sequential art. Glad to hear you had a relaxing vaca Shax and that everything's good in your life. What else could a person want ?

I love this place. I always thank God for the things that I have in my life and the dangers that I avoided while in this world.

As you well know, this year has been trying for me and my family due to my job situation (or lack of job, as the case may be), so I always feel blessed that I have this place to come to. Everyone has been supportive and encouraging when I'm down as well as sharing in my happiness when things are looking up, and I am so grateful this site exists.
At present, I've only met two people from here in real life, but I feel like I know many of you just through your postings and that gives me great joy. God is seeing me through this time of trial by putting people into my life to help me through each day, and this site is a big part of that, so thank you all.

Well I'm also on family vacation as some of you already know, and I'm not having so great a time. And as I've said elsewhere before I don't necessarily like venting/complaining about my personal issues, because I know there are other people with far worse problems. Plus I don't like to come off like a crybaby. However since coming here more often recently I've rediscovered the online support from a group of quality individuals. Thanks in spades for the responses and advice good or bad. Or just listening. It is appreciated.

I'm so glad this forum survived the CBR reboot. I love classic comics to the point of obsession, but have no one IRL to talk to them about. So I'm definitely glad this nexus of fellow classic comic fans exists.

Lovely post, shax, and, as others have said, thank YOU for building this place. Like BaB above, I basically have no one to share my love of classic comics with in real life, so this place (or the old forum on CBR) always has been a valued venue for me to come and talk vintage funny books with likeminded folk. The fact that it's populated by such an awesome bunch of people -- many of who I consider real friends, dispite having never met any of you -- is what really makes this place such a joy to visit.

Others have covered it well, and probably more eloquently than I could have. In a time of need, Shax created this island as a safe haven for us refugees from the Crisis on CBR, and for all those who came after. As a moderator, it's an honor to be allowed to help keep the beaches clean.

I'd just like to say that I think you guys are a cool bunch. Even though there's miles and miles between us on the globe, it's neat that we can get together on this virtual venue. I'm always in awe at the great storage of comic book knowledge that you guys have inside your heads, and the background stories on the writers, artists, and other staff add a lot to the reading experience of classic comics.
Like others above, I too am happy with the friendly and welcoming atmosphere on this forum and I hope it will endure, (but I'm also glad that there's room for some banter and well-intentioned snark).
GROUP HUG!!!!
