Several questions in one, here:
1. As the poll above indicates, how do you prefer to read Usagi?
2. When Stan writes Usagi, which format is he writing to? There are several stretches where it seems like he's writing for the collected editions, with a theme, character, or location at the center of seven or so issues in a row. I wonder if the new Saga editions will encourage him to tell broader stories that take upwards of 21 issues to reconcile. Of course, that's two years' time for floppy readers! I did like having Travels with Jotoro and Fathers and Sons appear in one Saga edition.
3. Which format does the most to benefit Stan? Does he earn more from the sale of a collected edition?

I like the trades for reading. It lets me read a bunch of issues all at once, as I prefer to binge read. While the Sagas are nice and also give me the ability to binge, I think the lesser thickness of the trades makes them more comfortable to hold than the super thick Sagas. That said, I do like the larger image size and better paper quality in the Saga edition so collect both the trade paperbacks and the Saga hardcovers.
So my preferences are:
To read: collected editions (trade paperbacks) To collect: Saga hardcovers

I used to be a floppy purist, but now that I own the Sagas, I find myself blowing through an entire volume in a single sitting. Part of that is the magic of Stan's craft. He's one of the few creators out there whose comics I can spend an hour studying in tremendous detail or speed-read through in 10 minutes of absolute joy. I guess the larger volumes encourage me to do the latter, while the floppies encourage me to do the former. I suspect it's easier with the hardcover sagas than the softcovers. I have the hardcovers, and the cover and binding do much of the holding for me so that it isn't particularly awkward. YES. I cannot do the softcover collected editions for that reason, and the older hardcover collected editions are just too expensive to acquire.

Perhaps I just need to spend some extra time reading my gallery edition. After that beast, the Saga HCs should seem just as small and light as a trade paperback!

I first discovered Usagi when he was appearing in Critters, but never read regularly in floppy format beyond those initial discoveries. When I rediscovered Usagi, it was in trades, but the Saga edition started coming out shortly after that, so what I have gotten to catch up has been the Saga editions.

I think I really enjoy reading the original comics (floppies) the most. Maybe because they come out first, maybe because I've been reading comics for over forty years now and I still enjoy reading stories in that format now. If I am taking a road trip someplace, I will usually toss in a few of the ltd ed hc or tpb collections because I can just open them up to any story and start reading.
I have never really gotten into the habit of reading omnibus editions of comics or regular fiction. I still remember when omnibus editions were the specialty of book clubs and such. I will admit that I like omnibus editions for comics a lot better than I do for general fiction, and I love how the Saga editions look on my shelves.
For maximum reading enjoyment, I would have to say the Gallery Edition is the ultimate format to fully enjoy every nuance of the art. I am really looking forward to the second volume in October.
To read: Any format To collect: All formats

Like many i initially found Usagi in Critters and purchased as floppy comics. Then wandered away for awhile and deciding to renew my reading i ordered the issue boxed collector set and the 1st 2 issues of the Saga editions. I literally devoured the collected edition over the 3 day holiday weekend. It is so easy to sit down and not stop reading until finishing an entire book. The series is that deliciously tast and wonderful. I will slowly order up the remaining Saga editions and continue with each new one that comes out. And since i admire and respect Stan Sakai's commitment to the continuing Usagi story for us readers when i stopped at the comic shop last night to pick up this weeks shipping i went and grabbed the last 4 monthly issues from the shelf. So i will be double dipping: buying monthly floppies in support of Stan and continue to buy the Saga collection for binge readings. There are too few "great" comic creator's and i want to help support a true genius however i can...

I intended to stop, but the production quality on the floppies has become jaw-dropping since Stan resumed the series.

I'm still working my way through the Fantagraphics stuff, but I'll be buying the Sagas.

I recently started buying the individual issues for the letters section and to support Stan. So now I'll have the floppies as well. Then I'll continue to buy the trade paperbacks as they come out. Once three of those come out and are collected into the Saga format, then I'll buy the hardcover of that. So lots of Usagi redundancy for me.
