Let's choose our favorite villain's and why from the Batman 1966 television series. So many spectacular actors and actresses tofight over and each brought their own special style and substance to their character.
For myself:
1. Joker. 2 words for you: Cesar Romero. That laugh. That attitude. Took his suave ladies man movie star persona and just dove into the full on absurdity of his character. Even so bold as to not shaving his trademark mustache! That's acting man!
2. Riddler. Sorry John Astin but Frank Gorshin and his wildly enthusiastic schizophrenic maniacal laughing ways in some ways made him the better counterpoint to Batman than Joker.
3. Penguin. Waah waah waah. Burgess Meredith stole the show every time he was on. You could tell he was enjoying himself and just chewing up the scenery as he waddled his way through the series.
4. Catwoman: any of the 3 splendid ladies added a dash of sexiness and sultry intoxicating innuendo into Batman's date life.
5. King Tut: Victor Buono was a classic baddie in so many television shows of the 60's. Here i enjoyed his bumbling villainy and how any bump to the head could set him off. His flamboyance as Tut came across wonderfully.
6. Egg Head. Eggsactly the perfect touch of humor and silliness made all the more merry with Vincent Price's inestimable charm and wit.
These were just my favorites to watch and wait for every week. What do the rest of you have to say?

My top 5 Picks
1. Otto Preminger's Mr. Freeze - He had that great villainy and his trademark "Wild!" that he constantly says set the tone of this diabolical villain that trying to discredit Batman by forcing Commissioner Gordon have no faith in the Caped Crusader.
2. Cesar Romero's Joker - He was top of his game as the Joker, my favorite show is when he had his own utility belt that balanced the score against Batman and Robin - His costume that he wore was considered one of the best and I always enjoyed his shows that he guest starred in.
3. Frank Gorshin's Riddler - He was perfect as the Riddler, his laugh, his craftsmanship, and his laughter rings just right touch of villainy that's made him a household name. He was just too perfect for the part. My favorite show was involving wax and the great Incas Treasures.
4. Julie Newmar's Catwoman - Brought Sex Appeal to the show, and I felt that she was sultry, full of zest, and most importantly every show that she appeared was a winner in my book I just love the way she moves her legs in this show.
5. Victor Bruno's King Tut - My favorite shows is the one when Bruce Wayne had a cliffhanger going down on a wheeled stretcher and the other one in the 3rd Season of which he accidentally discovered the Batcave was the highlights of his villainy and he was evil incarnate and one of the most diabolical one ever - I will never, ever forget abu rabu simbu too!
Three Honorable Mentions
Burgess Meredith as the Penguin Vincent Price as the Egghead Roddy McDowell as the Bookworm

Bookworm The greatest One-off character the series had ever developed. i really wish he had a few more arcs as Roddy Mcdowell played him so perfectly. After watching the episode the other day I think he might be my favorite villain in the whole series. (Maybe not in Batman history altogether...more recent incarnations have pushed Mr. freeze into the Top rung of that ladder) But of the Batman '66 Incarnation?....Definitely bookworm

Frank Gorshin's Riddler, definitely. Every appearance he made was a high point of the series.

The Riddler (Gorshin) and The Joker were my favourite villains... although all of the villains were very good, in an OTT sort of way! I used to fancy Cat Woman too, well the Julie Newmar version more specifically, when she changed in S3 my affections were directed to the Commissioner's daughter BatGirl.

1. Joker (Cesar Romero). Always a fun episode with the Joker.
2. Riddler (Frank Gorshin). Gorshin was perfect both in his acting & his physical movements as the Riddler.
3. Penguin (Burgess Meredith). Perfection. A comic book drawing came to life when he played the Penguin.
4. Catwoman (Julie Newmar). Man was she beautiful. One of my many celebrity crushes in the 60's.

Penguin, far and away. Burgess Meredith was having the time of his life and it shows in every one of his episodes. Julie Newmar is a close second and she demonstrated terrific comedic timing. Then, it would be Victor Buono, as King Tut, followed by Gorshin. Buono just kills in that kind of demented, over-the-top fun, which is why he made a career of it. His appearances were the only ones worth seeing, in the Man From Atlantis.
Mister Freeze was a hit 2 out of 3 times (didn't care for Eli Wallach). hard to choose between Otto Preminger's more demented turn, or George Sanders "cooler" performance. Sanders had the perfect voice, for a villain.
Cliff Robertson was a favorite, though I never cared for the character of Shame. Robertson elevated a dumb gimmick, though, and I loved his banter with batman, in a gunfight:
Shame: "Your mother wears army boots!"
Batman: "Yes and she found them quite comfortable!"
The best henchmen are still the pirates, from the movie. I love the look one gives when Catwoman is purring, loudly, while looking through the submarine periscope. He leans back and stares dumbfounded at her, like he can't figure out why he is working for this bunch.
