Writers, Letterers, Artists, Pencillers, Inkers, and Colorists
In my own mind, the two key positions in the Comic Book World are the Writer and the Artist. Agree?
Having said that, I have been racking my brain for some time and I just wanted to let you all know that I did not read any Comic Books from 1987 to 1999 because of my work at Boeing. I was working 55-60 hours a week on the average and then some. I started reading Comic Books around 2001 and stopped momentarily around mid-2007 and return back to Comics around the beginning of 2010 after taking care of more important things in my life.
Please respect my opinion and my understanding of this subject and I'm never, ever was good at names and even names of Writers and Artists that I like and I have a hard time remembering them because in the Comic Book World there are hundreds and hundreds of Writers and Artists that been around at the beginning of Comics and there are thousands and thousands of the latter four positions that I've a hard time remembering who did what titles altogether.
First of All, I want to discuss about the Writers and in my own understanding (don't criticize me) that the Writer should do it's own Lettering because that way they can do their own editing of the book and make sure that the story is accurate and therefore makes the editing job of the Company much more easier. So, Writers do their own Lettering.
Secondly, I want to discuss about the Artists and in my own understanding (again, don't criticize me) that the Artist should do the penciling because to ensure that their artistic talents is not being tampered with. So, having said that all Artists do there own penciling period.
In my own understanding, of the six positions that I listed on top. It is the Artist job to ensure that the Inking (Inkers) and the Coloring (Colorists) do their job correctly and it's the Artist Job to oversee these two positions altogether. To me, these are 2nd tier jobs that reports to the Artist and if they do not do a good job they are disposable and can be fired at a moment notice. I don't pay any attention to these jobs because I pay attention to the penciling of the job because I can see that in a comic book quite easily. So, having said that - I don't mind everyone here talks about Inkers and the Colorists because these jobs can be done separately from the Artist/Penciling and because I'm not good with names the names of the Inkers and Colorists don't mean a thing to me at all. Too many Names confuses me. And, that's a honest fact of me.
Sorry that I said that, because I don't pay much attention to it and therefore the overall art is all I care about.
I tried my best to explain all of these jobs in the best of my ability and I read and re-read all of your comments and posts here in this thread and I just wanted to share my thoughts in a clear and calm state of mind on this subject matter and sorry that I took so long in explaining the dynamics of the six positions that I listed below.
