Although it's not up to the the best of Kirby, I'll still take the original. Strangely enough, in all of the above examples I prefer the original covers!

This is a good example of a reprint cover that is better than the original, IMHO.

It's kind of nice the way they just reversed the scene from the original cover.

This is so cool and when I read your comments that the scene was reversed and I had to do a double take on it and this got to be one of the better reprints that I seen so far!

I don't know why it hadn't occurred to me before to post some of these, because there is no better example of reprint covers being more dramatic and dynamic than the originals than Marvel's covers for its Western titles Between Rawhide Kid 126 and the final issue (151), the likes of Tony DeZuniga, Gil Kane, Gene Colan and were frequently turned loose, and the results were astonishing. Here are a couple (with the originals) to whet your appetites: Another famous one was Steranko's cover for Tex Dawson in 1973, which covered reprints from Western Kid #10. The original was by Joe Maneely. Each has its strengths and weaknesses...

Fwiw I prefer the second covers in each pair--the updated covers seem to me to be more complex and inventive than the originals.

This might be the lousiest reprint cover of a classic image in the thread.
