I got to meet William Shatner and George Takei at Awesome Con D.C. this past weekend. I spent $125 to get autographs from both of them, and probably stood in line for a total of two hours in return for about 30 seconds or so of interaction with them. I totally geeked out when I met them, and probably did a lot of blubbering about how excited I was to meet them. But it was totally worth it. Not to be morbid or anything, but the cast of TOS is getting up there in years, and several of them have passed on already, so I figured if I have a chance to meet any of them now I should go for it.

$125 to meet and get an autograph from both Takei and Shatner sounds like a pretty solid deal to me.

Does this mean we're trading Abrams lens flares for more Fast and the Furious homages?

Back when I was in highschool I sort of made my own with my flip phone. I took a screen window patch, spray painted it gold and glued it to my phone. Then I made a recording of the sound from the tv show and set that as the sound the phone made when ever you flipped it open. No where near as cool as this but at the time I thought it was awesome.

After watching some documentaries on the New Horizon probe, I was in a Trek sorta mood, and 'Measure of a Man' happened to be on.. man, that's a great episode.

So I've been in a Trek mood as of late and can't decide what I want to watch. I'm thinking I'm in the mood for simplicity and nostalgia -- TOS or TNG. Any suggestions?

Maybe watching the original episode followed by the DS9 homage. I don't have the original on DVD, but I think it's still on Netflix.

All five series are on Netflix so you could easily go for any of them. As for what fits the holiday season the best, I would go with TNG personally. Star Trek: Generations would make the perfect Christmas movie.

Star Trek: Generations would make the perfect Christmas movie. I choose to believe the Next Gen movies never happened, personally. Otherwise, yes, that would be a good choice. I do vaguely recall a TOS episode where Kirk was concerned about whether or not his crew would get real turkeys cooked for Christmas or something. It was a throwaway line that I last heard YEARS ago, but does anyone know what I'm talking about?

I've been on paternity leave for the last several weeks, and since it takes roughly 45 minutes to feed, burp, and change a newborn, I've been doing an almost-complete re-watch of the complete TNG series while on baby duty (skipping certain episodes which I remember as being "meh") and following along with ST novelist Keith Candido's rewatch guide. www.tor.com/series/star-trek-the-next-generation-rewatch/It's sort of a companion to my Batman reading project supplemented by Shaxper's reviews, which is on a brief hiatus since it's easier to watch TV than to read comics while caring for a newborn!
