That's why I always feel lucky to have grown up before the VCR age: I think most of us who did so learned early on to enjoy watching movies and tv shows from all different eras, because that's what was available - you never got to see a new movie on tv until a few years later and they were continually playing all kinds of old stuff, from the Marx brothers to Abbot & Costello and all kinds of other things, Bogart, Cagney, we developed a taste for all that stuff at such a young age that it wouldn't even have occurred to us to think it wasn't cool.
In my case, it gave me taste for the music and dance of those different eras as well, since musical comedies were a huge genre and musical interludes were common in many of the comedies - how lucky we were to see a young Ella Fitzgerald singing A Tisket a Tasket in, was it Buck Privates? Or the Andrews Sisters in other Abbot & Costello comedies.

The local library had the complete VHS collection of TOS. I don't know if I would have been able to see the episodes otherwise, as I never remember them being show in reruns when I was little.

Really? Some of my fondest memories as a little kid were watching reruns on one of the local Boston channels with my father, and as I got older I used to love how the Sci-Fi channel would marathon TOS on christmas.

Of course there is the possibility that it was on in reruns, but if it was, my dad never put it on.
But I did live in a smaller market growing up.

I used to catch reruns of TOS late night when I'd come home from the bar. I still remember the first episode I watched like that it was "The Enemy Within" which had a dog dressed up in a fuzzy costume with a horn and that made me laugh so hard. But the story was actually good and that's what kept me watching.

Adam Nimoy & Terry Farrell announced their engagement. Is Mazel tov or live long and prosper more appropriate?

Here comes the big tie-in push for Discovery. At one point I was in good shape with being caught up on the various Star Trek comics and within a small push of the novels, but not so much anymore. I may give these a try as there's a chance to get in on the ground floor here.

The novel sounds pretty decent so I'll definitely check that out, and if the preview has decent art I might get the comic.

Thought this was more interesting than some of the actual trailer footage we've seen so far.

The new theme music has been released, and it sounds really good to me. I love how it plays off of the original theme.

So the initial Premiere hour long episode for Discovery will air on CBS Sunday 9/24/17. Check your local listings and plan to watch or avoid depending on your own particular choice. I have only heard sad things across the internet and have little hope of it being remotely Trek-ish but will watch and see what they have done to Roddenberry's vision. Not going to be watching via CBS Direct or anything so this will be my only exposure to the series and what ever folks write and post about on the internet.

I'm pretty optimistic that it's going to be enjoyable, the recent trailers have looked good to me.

Tweets from Trek Alums after an early viewing of the first episode are very positive, making me pretty pumped to sit down and watch it myself. I plunked down the 6 bucks cbs wanted for a one month subscription so I'm locked in for that long at any rate. Looking around the cbs site I'm pretty surprised they don't have more original content; I mean having access to every past itteration of Trek and back episodes of current and some past cbs shows is neat but you'd think they'd be more.
