So I'm slowly watching The Orville, as it's essentially Next Generation with penis jokes. I'm still not sure how seriously to take it and how invested to get, but I just wrapped up Season 2, Episode 4: ""Nothing Left on Earth Excepting Fishes", and holy geez was that good. By far my favorite episode yet. I have renewed hope for the series. Yeah, I watched season 2 of Orville last fall (after catching only two episodes of season 1 before that) and I was surprised at how much I liked it. It's a pretty solid show.

Noah Hawley has been hired to write and direct Star Trek 4, resurrecting the movie from Limbo.

If you're a Brit, the current issue of Star Trek Magazine, published by Titan, has reached its 200th issue!
The magazine started before the US got it, so if you're an American, whose car has the steering wheel on the wrong side, then it'll be #73. And #73 isn't a special number, is it?
I did pick this up for the first time in ages. Some pretty good features in it. I did buy it regularly back in the day (it started in the UK in 1995). It always seemed to find material even during the barren years between 2005 (when Enterprise finished) and 2009 (when Abrams' project was released).
I will make one criticism: you know I love letters pages. Back in the day, the publication had some long and lively letters, whether it be people suggesting how the franchise could progress - one writer suggested the Omega Quadrant - or those looking at the real world through the lens of Trek. Sadly, like a lot of publications, recent years have featured 'letters pages' where the editors simply select some short posts (from Facebook) and tweets. Sorry, but 280-character tweets and short FB posts will never be as enjoyable to read as well-formulated letters. That isn't a criticism of the internet, but people don't tend to write "novels" as posts on Facebook while Twitter's 280-character limit will always be limiting.

Today marks 25 years since Star Trek: Voyager first aired on UPN in the United States.
Out of all the post-TOS shows, Voyager may be my favourite. Being 70,000 light years from Earth meant that they were boldly going where no-one had gone before. I enjoyed the show for the most part, many of the villains were menacing. And the Delta Quadrant setting meant we weren't going to be bumping into the Ferengi every five minutes. One of my favourite episodes is "Tuvix", a most thought-provoking one which sees Tuvok and Neelix accidentally merged, becoming Tuvix. Tuvix argues for his right to life while Janeway wants Tuvok and Neelix back. Great stuff.
Happy 25th anniversary, Voyager.

Otherwise, yeah, Voyager is also more or less my favorite post-TOS Trek (I say more or less because occasionally, depending on my mood, or if I've just rewatched a really good episode, TNG is my favorite.) As for "Tuvix," while it is indeed powerful I wouldn't say it's a favorite, precisely because it's so thought-provoking and disturbing. It's one of those episodes I really don't like rewatching because of that. (One of my personal favorites is "Distant Origin" - c'mon, they met descendants of the dinosaurs! That was friggin' awesome!)

Unfortunately, Voyager is probably the Trek series I have seen the least of. But that's due to never having UPN available and then when it finally did air on a local affiliate, the video and audio were always out of synch. Perhaps someday I'll have the opportunity to try a watch/rewatch of the series.

The original is by far my favorite, but I like Next Generation a lot. I also like the Animated Series a lot and I sort of consider it the unofficial 4th season. It's just too bad that they couldn't afford to have Chekov there along with the rest of the cast. I've watched very little of DS9, Voyager, or Enterprise, but I guess I'd say DS9 is my favorite of those three series.

Favorite Trek series is truly that which you grew up with. My best friend is a TOS fan. Has 3 boys who all grew up during the times when Next Generation through Enterprise was on. The oldest boy grew up with DS9. The middle boy with Voyager. The youngest during the days of Enterprise. They can barely tolerate Next Generation (usually say it is too "slow") except for any Klingon or Borg episodes and all 3 have no idea why we adults like TOS (other than they admit Kirk is the best Captain cuz he kicks ass, takes no shit and gets all the alien babes) so much. They have the kids of today concept: if it isn't new and fancy and special effects driven then it must not be very good.
All 3 boys refuse to watch Lost in Space or Space: 1999 as it is boooooring to them. Babylon 5 is too fake looking with all the CGI and they will leave the room when we watch Star Trek the Animated series. They LOVE Star Wars because it is big screen movie style science fiction: a lot of flash, explosions and cool designs and elements and minimal story/plot that they can easily dive into. They roll their eyes whenever we put on Flash Gordon. They won't watch Doctor Who or the movies 2001 A Space Odyssey or it's sequel 2012. Puts them into instant brain sleep coma mode. Whaddaya gonna do with kids today? Sheeeeeeesh

I was checking out some back issues of Star Trek Magazine. One was #198 from mid-2019. A guy called Rich Matthews wrote an article about the Borg. Here's a portion of that article:
I think he has a point with that last sentence. What about the rest of you?

And I suppose they like the 2004 Battlestar Galactica more than the 1978 series. Well, I liked the new Galactica better, at least the initial few seasons; the original did not age well for me - I actually prefer Marvel's licensed comics to the TV show, esp. the last third when Walt Simonson was doing most of the art. (Buck Rogers in the 25th Century is another story - the first season is classic late '70s camp...)

As for Q, I never saw him as actively malevolent, even when he wanted to wipe us out. He's like the trickster god of so many pantheons: not evil, just not operating on the same principles we are.
