I have fond memories of Lego's as a kid, and now reliving them with my own children. One thing I forgot about them is that building with Lego's can get very addicting! And a lot of creative fun.
Some favorite classic sets I had in the 70's and 80's:
Alpha-1 Rocket Base
This was the earliest lego set I remember having, I think I was five or six when I had it. I remember having so much fun driving the astronaut around on the lunar buggy.
King's Castle
I got this set for Christmas one year and it was awesome. Hours of fun was had. I had some other smaller castle sets and I made an even bigger castle. No idea what happened to it. My parents got rid of a lot of our stuff at some point. Would have loved to pull this thing out of the attic. Good times.
Blacktron Renegade
The big thing I remember about the Blacktron series was how cool it was that there were now black Lego pieces! Because it always seemed that black pieces were hard to come by up until then. The Renegade looked great on the shelf until someone knocked it to the ground into a hundred pieces. It then later turned into a makeshift fort for other toys like Transformers and G.I. Joe's.
Some sets we have today:
Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!
This is the set that got me and my children back into Lego. We saw it in the Lego Movie, but when I saw it on store shelves I knew we had to build it. All those memories of classic Lego Space sets were relived thanks to this thing.
Jokerland
Jokerland is hit or miss. We found it for half price. My kids mainly wanted this for the minifigures and batmobile. The Joker's "attractions" are neat, but they don't get played with much. Works as a decent display for DC's bad guys.
Poe's X-Wing Fighter
This was the one set I saw when TFA came out that screamed "Build me!". It's awesome.
X-Men vs. The Sentinel
A Blackbird, a sentinel and four minifigs rounds out to a good deal and lots of fun for my kids (I had a lot of fun building the Blackbird).
So how about you? Any fond memories of Lego sets or fun building with the kids?
