They were saying in the forum that only works sometimes, and not very much of the stuff is actually tagged correctly. TBH, if I have to go to a separate page anyway (which is not what I usually do, so I'm not sure how often I'll actually do it), I figure I might as well go to Brian's site directly and give HIM the clicks.

Maybe we could have a review thread here for new comics that anyone could contribute to?

We do have people post about new stuff on occasion, which is nice. I would probably contribute ocassionally to a full blown review thread, but I wouldn't want to be in charge

But I think maybe we could review new books one week after they come out to avoid spoilers & give a more detailed review than a brief summary. We can do it informally & if it became cumbersome maybe one of the moderators (or even a new moderator) could monitor it.

My one thought is that if you are going to do a review section/thread, the reviewers would have to agree on a common scale (letter grades, x out 5 stars, x out of 10 or whatever) if not a common rubric for evaluating books to give it some context and compatibility between reviews. Having separate review threads for classic books that reflect the character and preferences of the reviewer is one thing, but if it is intended as a common review thread, there should be some commonality between the reviews, especially if multiple posters review the same book.

That is why I am trying to feel out if anyone is interested. It should be several posters to hit the different publishers. For example my pull list right now is heavy on DC & Archie so someone else would have to cover Marvel & Valiant & Image & others. Then we could set up these sort of standards before starting the reviews.

I'm currently reading, BPRD, Hellboy, Abe Sapien(though it just had its last issue) Wonderwoman, Batman, Detective, Action, Superman, New Superman, Superwoman, Batgirl, Birds of Prey, Gotham Academy, Hellblazer and I might stick with Redhood so if we made this a go I could could cover a fair bit of ground.
And I think MRP is right, if we really want to get serious we should come up with a standard grading system and a sort of rubric to give our reviews a sense of consistency. Something like a five point system with two points for art, one for plot, one for characterization and one for say willingness to buy the next issue?
What say you all?

I read plenty of new comics, but work starting blocking this site last week for some reason, so until that changes I'll only be on here once a week.

One feature I will miss from CBR: the Shelf Porn column, where people would send in pictures of their comic book rooms. There were some really nice set-ups featured on there.

I liked it too (I stole a lot of ideas on how to display stuff form it), but there hasn't been a new one in nearly a year and a half, so it was gone before the makeover. -M
