Well, the more you know, the more you can learn. Great find for the contest Prince Hal. Only 36 pages and at 50 cents it was priced like underground comix. From Western Publishing, of all people. Groovy (Whoops-different publisher) It would be interesting to see, at that price, what kind of advertisers it had and if it was targeting an older (teen-age) audience. Unless the premium price was because there were no ads. EDIT: From GCD, looks like no ads, but one story titled "Tiger Morse's Teenie Weenie" has a note, "Heavily illustrated text article about a store on 53rd and Broadway in New York City. Possibly a paid advertisement." Maybe the whole thing was some kind of promo. About Tiger MorseThe illustrated "ads" seem to be the work of the writer-artist team--Michael Lutin and Michel Quarez--of the comic's stories, at least according to Trina Robbins in her 1999 book From Girls to Grrrlz: A History of ♀ Comics From Teens to Zines. As an example, she writes that "the ad on the inside front cover, telling the reader to "Drop away the Ugly Fat" is followed by "Do you have to starve to death? No. You've got more sugar stored up than you've ever dreamed. Make up your mind...there is nothing to send for...nothing to buy." She also notes that "Mod Love is sized larger than the average comic book and is printed on slick white paper instead of the usual yellowish newsprint." Finally, Robbins considers Mod Love to be "along with ...along with the Simon and Kirby romances, the best love comic ever produced." There are some additional Mod Love links/info in a recent thread started by mdg.

Hondobrode and Farrar are the two best covers and I have to give it to Hondobrode for the win.

Hoosier X, who was the only other poster to go with scooter-riding angle to mods.

Pol Rua, because so many elements of modness, but man, so many great ones! Had to blink through my nostalgic tears...

chickenpocket 'cause it looks like Charlton actually snuck a naked body-painted chick on the cover.
Honorable mention to pinkfloydsound17 and tingramretro for two top-notch covers.
