Did anyone here read any of the 3 series published by this company in 2002-03?
Freemind #0-7 by Michelinie, Giordano & Layton (& others). This was an android concept similar to NoMan from Tower.
Metallix #0-6 by Michelinie, Lim & Layton. Another variation on Iron Man. 4 people with different abilities share a suit of liquid armor.
Deathmask #1-3 by Michelinie, Giordano & Layton. A mix of Dr Strange & Shadowman.
A 4th title Peacekeeper was to be launched next.
I picked up the FCBD day issue & liked it. It felt like old school early Valiant. So I tracked down Freemind & Metallix. I liked Metallix more.
I knew it wouldn't last in the new flashy Image Age. But they were fun while they lasted. Similar to Atlas' short lived revival in 2011...

I've never even heard of these until now! I always have sought out the obscure titles since there is where you can find hidden gems!
As Cei-U! would say - I summon the obscure heroes!

I bought Freemind 0 for 10 cents. I don't remember anything about it.

They are fairly hard to find as they weren't distributed by Diamond.
Future Comics only sold directly to comic shops, and most didn't carry it, and the ones that did hardly sold any.
I think I picked up an issue or two years later on the cheap, but frankly, I think they were trying to capture that Valiant lightning again, and missed.
Frankly, with Giordano, Michelinie and Layton, I figured this would be stronger.

I mostly like the work of any one of those guys, but this didn't click.
They also got hardly any press, recognition or support.
Who wants to be on the wrong side of Diamond ?
It's still hard for me to believe that they have no direct competition.
I preferred when there was a free market with Capital, Bud Plant, Alternate Realities, Heroes World, East Coast Seagate, etc.

I agree that these books weren't great. I just remember them being a "mental palate cleanser" at that time from the over the top violence in stuff like the Authority & the Ultimates. So maybe I remember them as better than they really were...

I bought those Future Comics based on the staff's reputation but never got around to reading them (like thousands of other comics I once owned). So you say Diamond didn't distribute them and now I'm wondering how I bought them. At that time, my LCS would give me the Diamond catalogue and an order form to take home and fill out. So he would order anything I indicated and hold it for my weekly. Somehow or other, I got all the Future Comics until they went belly-up. Beats me where they came from

I was super excited when this was announced, as a big fan of Michelinie and Layton's Iron Man, but they just weren't that great. I think I have the FCBD one and the 1st issue of Metallix. I probably would have bought it if it was easy to get at the time, but it quickly vanished from the shelves and simply wasn't good enough to expend the extra effort to find IMO.

Beats me where they came from They were distributed directly via the internet from Future to about 50% of LCS. They offered a 100% return guarantee. However because of limited distribution Future eventually gave in to Diamond & distributed thru Diamond but by then it was too late & sales never recovered enough.

I seem to remember ordering them directly through their website I wanted to give them a chance, as I was very much into the shared universe that Crossgen was giving me at the time and I'd just discovered Valiant through a friend. The books felt like good reads at the time, but I feel like I paid for some in advance that never came out. It was probably around the same time Crossgen went belly-up and I almost gave up on comics altogether.

Sad to say this that my store doesn't carry them too.
