I wasn't criticizing your scale,we're all subjective here so it's cool, I was just saying that it fell a little short for me. I like the concept and the team work and the supporting cast is promising but it didn't blow me away. I didn't take it that way. I know it's all subjective. I just really like the way Phil is building this title while keeping it connected to the Superman family.
And again thank you for doing this. I know it's extra work for you. It's really appreciated.
It is pretty cool that it's connected but still it's own thing, I feel like this is the book where we will eventually find out what happened to nu52 Clark. And I don't mind organizing this at all, it's a lot of fun and the conversations its building are pretty good. In the past I've had to go to CBR if I wanted to talk new comics but were getting quality discussions here now.

Deathstroke #2"The Professional Part Two: Band of Brothers" Written by Christopher Priest Break Downs by Larry Hamma Penciled by Carlo Pagulayan Inked by Jason Paz Colored by Jeremy Cox Summary: Hot after the heels of rescuing his old friend Wintergreen, Slade is hitting the streets trying to find out which of their old acquaintances sold them out.
Plot: In taking the reins of Deathstroke Priest is able to tell a both a heart pounding espionage story and a humanizing story of a truly bad guy and the balance between the two is a lot of fun to see. With Priest's back ground with the Black Panther the intrigue is easy to get, this is what the man excels at; building subtle tension and then blowing it wide open with well paced action but what he's perhaps less heralded for is his ability to weave in small personal details. It's a delicate operation, if you do it too much it feels forced and throws off the pacing but here he strikes it just right with the way he manipulates time backwards and forwards to explore the various characters under his care. But what makes this task doubly hard is the fact that these guys aren't heroes so you have the added feat of having to get your audience to empathize with the bad guys with out making them soft but Priest does it; he shows us that Slade is a complex character with motivations we can understand with out diluting his hardened mercenary style. That said, while the character work is fun and the intrigue about who sold out his friend does draw you in it's hard to see what the actual end game is. Vengeance would be the obvious reason for the hunt but the structure seems to point to it being more complex than that but without giving us anything to go on to figure out what that more complex motivation might be.
Art: Larry Hamma ,of G.I. Joe fame, does a fantastic job of breaking down some big, brutal action scenes that move like they were straight out of a Hollywood action film. On top of those layouts the details provided by Carlo Pagulayan are rich and give it all a very realistic, lived in feel. I don't know detailed Hammas break downs are on this but the relationship between the two artists seems to be working no matter what it is.
Conclusion: Priest paints an interesting picture about the collision between the pasts and presents of these mercenaries and while it is fun to see its hard to see what exactly Preist wishes to say with this story. There's a feeling that he's reaching for something more than an action flick style revenge plot but it's unclear where he intends to go here but for the time being he has my attention.

thwhtguardian , you are on fire with these reviews!!! I really need to check this one out now: Hadrian's Wall #1 Thanks for the persuasive review! This was definitely my favorite comic in a good while, the noir style mystery just draws you right in and the art is amazing. I was trying to find a scan of this one spread of the cityscape but I couldn't find it but I think this progression is pretty nice: It really gets across both the the isolation one would feel in the vastness of space and the claustrophobic closeness of it all and to make you feel both of those disparate feelings at the same time in a few short panels is just damn powerful.

Finally read Action Comics last night. I enjoyed it and want to see where this mystery will lead. Nice to see Clark Kent in the spotlight and that he is not a clumsy nerd. This Clark can hold his own (well, up to a point) and he reminded me of Lois the way he went after his story. Good to see Perry and Jimmy. Also liked the panel showing Clark, Lois, and their son watching the press conference. The final page was cool and this story certainly has my attention. I am very much enjoying Action and Superman. 2 of my all time favorites that I had dropped with the new 52 foolishness. I am going to hopefully read Superwoman this evening.

I am really enjoying what others think of the DC Rebirth titles I have skipped. And I am really curious about whether anyone else tried Blue Beetle or the Titans. I like Titans very much. The line up is Nightwing, Flash (Wally), Tempest, Arsenal, Donna Troy, and Lilith. So far, the story has focused on Wally West's return. This book seems to want to focus on the close friendships of the Titans while they try to recover the memories they lost due to the New 52.

I am not sure if others are reading it since it is the originals & not the Wolfman/Perez era Titans.

I am really enjoying what others think of the DC Rebirth titles I have skipped. And I am really curious about whether anyone else tried Blue Beetle or the Titans. I've read the first 2 Titans (the rebirth and #1). It's OK. It's 100% focused on the rebirth uber plot... that of Wally West coming back when no one remembered he existed. IMO, it's an odd mix of characters, they're trying for the Wolfman/Perez family feel, but with the 60s cast (Dick Grayson, Donna Troy, Roy Harper, Wally, Lilith, and Aqualad). Lilith is essentially a substitute for Raven, and so far Aqualad seems to be there just to be distrustful. Honestly, I'm reading it more to see where these characters fit into the new DC more than the fact the story is good. There's also TEEN Titans, which is Damian, Gar, Starfire, and I'm not sure who else... it kills me that Starfire is there, honestly... makes NO SENSE. Also, I don't know if it's the mature, deadly, sex-crazed Starfire from Red Hood and the Outlaws, or the naive, cute Starfire (ala the Teen Titans cartoon) that was in her own title.. they're pretty much completely opposite and incompatible. I suspect the latter considering the Title.

I'm much more interested in Teen Titans, while I agree that Starfire doesn't fit at all but it may be an interesting element who knows?
