Incredibly impressive! Are you a particularly big Amethyst fan, or do you commission a lot of original art? Welcome to the community, by the way. It's a pleasure to have you here! I was a fan, but the theme to my collection is artists I like and the character I most associate with them. Colon/Amethyst fits. So, does Lopresti/Amethyst. My CAF gallery is here. Amazing way to collect, and a brilliant collection!

I don't think I picked up the original maxi-series off the stands, but I picked it up not too long thereafter because I was a huge fan of what Colon had done on Arak. And I really loved the maxi. Fun concept, different than most of what was on the stands and incredible art by Ernie Colon.
I'd have been happy if they had left it right there. I bought the first 3-4 issues of the continuing series and it didn't recapture that magic. And I HATED Giffen's obsession with the Lords of Order/Chaos.

I have the Showcase for Amethyst and while color may be an enhancement to many, for me this is another black and white triumph. The artwork of Ernie Colon and Esteban Moroto and Ric Estrada all shine brightly showing their skill and artistry in great detail. I think sometimes we here in the USA are spoiled and pampered having everything in color. Black and white is how the artist and inker do their work and the pure beauty of what they create can be lost or muddied in the coloring. I appreciate a truly stunning black and white comic or movie when they are done well.

I understand where you're coming from, but you have to remember that Amethyst was originally in color & color was a huge part of the story re: the multi-colored gemstones, the fantasy element, etc. I don't mind b&w reprints - as long as the comics reprinted were originally in b&w. I.e., the Creepy & Eerie horror mags. from back in the day, Savage Sword of Conan, the '70's Tomb of Dracula magazine, the '70's Planet of the Apes magazine, etc. However, reading something like Amethyst, Spider-man, etc. in b&w would be like watching Star Wars or Lord of the Rings (movies where color is extremely important) on a black & white screen - i.e., a lot of the effect would be lost due to the lack of color.
