Actually, this series is scheduled to be collected - at least the first five issues are; this volume should be coming out in January 2017. Here's the Amazon solicitation: www.amazon.com/Ka-Zar-Savage-Dawn-Bruce-Jones/dp/1302905066/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1474120701&sr=1-1&keywords=ka-zarThe problem is the small size of the volume - just 5 issues - WTF?! I haven't seen a Trade this thin in years. I would think at the least they could collect 10 issues. Maybe Marvel is "testing the waters" to see how well the volume will do before reprinting other volumes?! It's also not clear if other volumes are planned, anyway - after all, the title doesn't include "Volume 1". I would have strongly preferred 2 much thicker Trades reprinting all 34 issues. I am on the fence about getting this due to the thin size, but I may still buy it.... It won't sell. You might be the only one buying it. He won't be...

Yeah, the more I think about this I'll probably get this first Ka-Zar the Savage Trade. I haven't ever read these initial issues, and even though I don't like the thin size, I do want to support this reprint - in the hopes that they'll reprint the rest of the series.
KTS is one of those titles that I never thought would be reprinted whatsoever, so the fact that this is coming out at all is promising. In any case, glad this will be in color (I wouldn't buy a b&w reprint of this title).

I would-the first few issues were reprinted in black and white in the Marvel UK anthology title Savage Action, and they looked great that way.

I don't love the colored art there, but, man, though B&W pin ups are awesome!

That's what gets lost most of the time in the printing process.
Original pencils are so beautiful and detailed.

Love the Anderson portfolio! The color images are from other people too, though... The first one is clearly inked by Armando Gil; is it over Anderson pencils? (Looks like pure Gil to me, because of Shanna's face). The second is Ron Frenz, who handled the art for several issues. As for the third, it's Bruce Jones flexing his artistic muscles, surely! I love Bruce Jones' art, too. It looks kind of Jeffrey Jones-like.

Looking closer at the wraparound cover, that's Ron Frenz. I think you're right about the last piece. I thought that looked off, but maybe it was a different inker that issue, like Al Williamson. Now that you say it, yes, that's Bruce Jones art. He and Anderson had also worked together on a Pacific Comics around that same time, Somerset Holmes. Jones has done so little work, but the few times I've seen it, like here, it's breathtaking. A real shame he hasn't done more. A few years back I was hoping to meet him at Planet Con, but at the last minute he cancelled. Good calls Roquefort Raider !

Great scans - Thanks! I literally haven't read KTS in 30+ years, so honestly only had dim memories of what the art looked like. I know this is an artist's portfolio rather than pages from the actual comic, but this still gives you a good idea of what the art looked like.
OK, now I'm almost certainly going to buy the Trade early next year...I really hope the entire series gets collected...

The first image is from Ka-Zar the Savage #15, with Armando Gil pencilling and inking from Brent Anderson's thumbnail layouts. My favourite work by Gil was when he inked Pat Broderick on Micronauts. The Bruce Jones Shanna page is from an 8 pager he wrote and drew in Marvel Comics Presents #13.

I don't love the colored art there, but, man, though B&W pin ups are awesome! Couldn't agree more. While it's been probably 10-15 years since I read it, I don't remember being wowed by the interior art of Ka-Zar near as much as those B&W's.

Anyone get the Ka-Zar: Savage Dawn trade yet? Apparently it is out.
I ordered mine from Amazon, and hope to have it shipped in the next several weeks - maybe; I ordered this with another item that's coming out later, so it may be a while before I get this.

Got my Ka-Zar: Savage Drawn trade today from Amazon. Great reproduction here, with solid art by Brent Anderson - I don't remember ever owning any of these early issues, so this is the first time I'll be able to read them in their entirety.
I understand that the thin nature (only 5 issues) of the volume is a disappointment to many (including me) - however, this is a nice little reprint collection. Again, I truly hope these Trades continue & that future trades have more than 5 issues included. Hopefully we'll get the entire series reprinted in a 2-3 years (keeps fingers crossed).
