Back in the '80's, I was a kid who collected super-hero comics - and, I do remember picking up a couple of issues of The Fury of Firestorm, The Nuclear Man (1982-1987; ran for 64 issues). The series then continued as simply Firestorm the Nuclear Man (1987-1990; ran from #65 to 100). I didn't collect the comic with any regularity, but did think it was a great series (as a kid, I had limited spending $, and couldn't get all of the comics I wanted). Here's links to the covers for both series: comicvine.gamespot.com/the-fury-of-firestorm/4050-3115/www.comicvine.com/firestorm-t...man/4050-3789/So, with all of the new attention the character has gotten re: his new comic series & of course the excellent appearance(s) in the superb TV series The Flash & Legends of Tomorrow, I'm surprised that DC hasn't reprinted any of these iconic '80's series featuring Firestorm. These were great series, and they deserve to be resurrected in a series of either Trade Paperbacks or Hardcovers. Here's hoping DC will reprint these at some point soon, if for no other reason than to capitalize on the re-interest in the character. Note that DC did reprint Firestorm's late '70's appearances in a thin TPB several years back, but there weren't that many issues collected here...

Huge Stormy fan. (if you couldn't tell from the Avatar (I first started using in CBR days)) if you didn't see it in another thread, here's the Killer Frost commission I got from Broderick back in June:

Great pic.! Thanks for the post. I have dim memories of reading Firestorm, but do remember Killer Frost as being an iconic villain in the series.

Most of the comics I'm reading at the moment are Marvels from 1982.

I've read very little DC over the years, but this is a series that interests me for several reasons: Gerry Conway was a writer on it, the character is interesting in the DC TV shows and it got a good write-up in the Slings and Arrows Comic Guide a few years back where the reviewer said a few times that it's basically a Marvel comic.

I actually got into a conversation with Gerry Conway about Firestorm a few years back. That Firestorm hasn't gotten broader love and recognition in the comic book world is a big lament of his. Ironically, he expressed this at a discussion panel about The Punisher. I pointed out that the answer was right in front of him: Firestorm is an escape fantasy that depends upon the reader's acceptance of a righteous, emotionally balanced super-human superego that keeps you in check. But, by the time Firestorm rolled around, comicdom was becoming far more fascinated by characters like The Punisher whose major appeal was their utter lack of superego.

I really liked the Gerry Conway Firestorm.. great bronze age fun! When Ostrander took over (who I usually like) he went in a totally different direction that didn't work, IMO.

I enjoyed the series while Gerry Conway was the writer and Pat Broderick was the artist. Ronnie, Professor Stein, Doreen, Killer Frost, Hyena.....Ronnie and Stein's relationship was interesting---high school kid and erudite professor working together. I loved it when Firestorm showed up on Super Friends too. Enjoyed the time he was a JLoA member and his crush on Power Girl.

Yes, I do remember Firestorm character on the cartoon in the '80's - very cool. IIRC, those were some of the later episodes of Super Friends - possibly the Super Powers episodes (with Darkseid), around 1984-ish?! I believe these tied in to the Super Powers toy-line.
I'm also surprised that the Firestorm character hasn't been more popular over the years. Interesting concept & great character design. Obviously, the comic did well back in the '80's - it lasted from 1982 - 1990; this wasn't just some flash-in-the-pan character whose title got cancelled early on. And, Firestorm also had a short-lived series in the late '70's as well.
The lack of reprints - of this & other DC series from the '80's - continues to astound me. Though I definitely feel that DC's output in the '80's & '90's was far superior to Marvel's (as I've mentioned in other threads) Marvel's collected editions/reprint department is far superior to DC's in every way. It's only been in the past 4-5 years that DC really put out some exceptional CE's (their reprint program in the first decade of the 200X's was not that great) - but, there is still a lot of material that should be reprinted - and hasn't been. My favorite decade for DC comics was the '80's, so it's too bad that this era is largely ignored by DC's reprint program.

I bought the first 6 issues for the Broderick art and he was replaced by someone else. Is that a thing with Pat, that he doesn't last long on books ?
