IT'S SOOOO BEAUTIFUL!! I forget, whatever happened to Toro? They retconed him into being an Inhuman.. he was in James Robinson's last Invaders series a bit. not sure if he turned up in either of the Inhumans titles that are going atm.

You are right on the nose and that's was the end of it and made this fan of Toro in the All Winner's Squad very unhappy and I was a big fan of this series.

Most expensive Spidey to date - $875...I was offered $1500 for it today and have so far declined.
It's a high grade 1st appearance of the Green Goblin.

I'd only spend higher-end money on a book if it's stood the test of time and not likely to decrease in value, so I could at least recover initial outlay if deciding to resell. The early silver-age issues, especially first appearances are great investments in my opinion. But as I only have one copy of #14, I prefer to hold onto it.

I'm one of the collectors that don't mind spending big money on a comic. For the most part, I don't have other expensive interests, and I came into the hobby this time with the ability to compile a truly nice collection with full runs of multiple titles. So far, the most I've spent on a single book is $2K for a low grade ASM#1. I made the decision to go that route and have Hero Restoration restore it, as opposed to buying a mid to high grade copy for $5-20K. I'll have $3500 in it when I finally get it back, and it will look better than any unrestored copy I could buy for that price. I have no plans on selling it, and I'll get satisfaction just seeing it in my collection. I'll attempt to do something similar for AF15, FF1, & JIM83. I'll pay the cost of a cheap car for each of them, but not the cost of a house. I already have put together a pretty nice collection, but I still have many thousands of dollars left to spend on it. Don't guess it will ever be "done".

Toro is still around and acting as an agent of Queen Medusa. Most recently, he's been appearing in Squadron Supreme.

In the past, I've spent maybe $100 for a DC silver age key or rare Flaming Carrot appearance. Pretty sure I'm to the point where I'll never pay more than $1 for any issue. I own pretty much everything, between singles, collections, and digital. The $1 max works easily right now, pretty sure I'd quit collecting modern comics if the prices rise to over $1.

As I look at turning 50 next year, I've been focusing mainly on key books in higher grade. I've also been selling here and there. Last year, I sold ASM #14 in 8.0 for $2,000 (I paid $750 for it in 1995). It financed our trip to Vegas to see Black Sabbath. Totally worth it. More recently, I sold Hangman Comics #5 in 9.2, a book I paid $800 for a few years ago. It fetched $7,000. That's going to pay for us to spend Christmas, 2017 in Vienna, a city I've long wanted to visit.

That's a great rate of return Phil...more than makes up for that Daredevil 158 (I remember nyah nyah) Did you have another Spidey #14 to make up for the one you sold? Mine could grade a 7.5 to 8 depending on which side of the anal fence the grading is done...I'm glad I didn't let it go as the interested buyer thinks $1500 is generous and you got 2 grand!

Sadly, that was the only one I had. $1500 for a raw book may well be fair, if not generous. ASM 14 is one that merits grading by CGC or CBCS IMHO. The page quality on mine was only CR/OW, but that's a very desirable book. You could quite easily do better than I did.

I still haven't gotten the ASM back. It had a variety of time-consuming repairs. There was a piece of hard tape from the old time labeling guns on the inside cover that had been there forever, but was firmly bonded. Then he had to leaf-cast areas on the cover that had chipping. The cover was cleaned and he is in the process now of fixing art damages and coloring on the cover (inside & out). My book had the added bonus of one interior panel of Spidey being cut out, which he will be able to fix to be undetectable, but stretch out the time. I took pictures of it and my Avengers 1 before I sent them, but they aren't on this computer. The Avengers 1 wasn't as extensive as ASM, and I was really happy with it. Personally, I prefer raw books to slabbed, so I didn't get it graded. Mike and I both agree that it would grade at least 6.0 now, and it was probably 2.0 or lower to start. It look better than any copy I've seen personally.
