i can't swing a dead cat without hitting a new review thread. Maybe it's time to create a sub forum for them.

i can't swing a dead cat without hitting a new review thread. Maybe it's time to create a sub forum for them. This debate has come up several times, and the consensus always ends up being not to go that route, but we can certainly discuss it again. Chime in, folks.

I don't think we need a sub-forum, but I do think some of the newer threads that are giant overviews and don't generate much traffic on their own would be better served as part of the series overview mega-thread rather than standalone threads.

OK with sub forum. Really dislike mega threads. I find I even repeat myself in them! So as a rule I skip most mega threads.

As an opposing POV, it is easier for me to follow 1 mega thread than several smaller threads. I only have time to keep up with 10-12 threads max, so a proliferation of threads means more of the site I am just not going to read/follow/participate in. I will check out long running threads, but I tend to skip most new threads because I just don't have the time or inclination to see what they're about beyond the title. SO there are a lot of things I might have participated in but won't because I will just never see the thread because I don't have time to check out every little thread that starts.
I think overall, fewer threads with more participation is better than many threads with little participation. Once a thread falls off the first page because of so many threads on the page, it's unlikely to be discovered by someone not already reading it unless someone is spending a lot of time exploring the forums, but those who make regular, frequent visits don't often look beyond the first page of most forums to find threads that have dropped off.

Devils advocate: I can't stand scrolling thru multiple posts on a mega thread to get to what I want to read/comment on. With separate threads I can pick & choose. For me it is less time consuming. I guess it comes down to personal preference.

I think you guys are missing the important thing.. why is ICtrombone swinging dead cats around the forum? Seriously, I'm mostly in favor of less structure, as people tend to start arguing about structure when there's too much of it. I suspect that the recent wave of new stuff will probably head back toward 'normal' soon... though a little higher 'normal' with some new people is always great

Most of the comics I'm reading at the moment are Marvels from 1982.

I don't mean combining them all to one huge thread, I mean have a forum that says Classic Review Threads and have each thread in that sub forum.

SNL Jeopardy:
Alex Trebek: The category is Reviews.
Sean Connery: I'll take Rev Eye Ews.
Trebek: No that's reviews.
Connery: I reviewed your Mother last night! Haw!
