It's coming...
It's time to resurrect our yearly Autumn tradition! Each October, we count down our horror related Top 5 once per week, building up to Halloween night. Hope you'll consider joining us this year!
The Challenge: Rank your Top 5 classic comic book horror characters! Explanations are expected
The Fine Details:
1. Only characters that appeared regularly in an ongoing comic book feature (three issues or more) count. They do not have to be the main character. E.C.'s Crypt Keeper, for example, is fair game.
2. Yes, you can include characters who have a life outside of comicdom (Dracula, the Frankenstein Monster, etc etc) so long as you are counting a specific depiction of said character by a specific creative team or in a specific comic book run. For example, you can list "Dracula (as depicted in Tomb of Dracula)", but you can't just say "Dracula".
3. Use whatever definition of "horror" that jibes with your own sensibilities. If you feel Moon Knight is a horror character, just explain why in your write-up. If you want to count Batman...hey, it's your list. But truly, a broader definition might make for a more interesting event. While I would not personally include Batman, I just might consider including Nocturna for the somber nocturnal tone her stories always elicit.
4. Using the community's definition of a "classic comic book," your list should only include characters based upon their appearances prior to October 1st, 2006.
Beyond that, it's all up to you. Anything not otherwise prohibited by the rules above is fair game so long as you're willing to explain your rationale.
The Process:
We will each post one of our entries each week, along with an explanation as to why we chose it:
October 2nd: Our #5 choices
October 9th: Our #4 choices
October 16th: Our #3 choices
October 23rd: Our #2 choices
October 30th: Our #1 choices
(If you'd like to see how this event worked in the past, you might consider checking out both The 2015 Long Halloween and The 2014 Long Halloween.
Questions? Suggestions? General observations about which characters and features you're considering? Post it all here!
And, if you're in, reply and let everyone know!
