He's probably going off what Mile High says is the "worth" of the book but I think you'd be silly to buy at that price. Granted prices on books like these climb drastically when films come out but I got the whole run for under 40 dollars only last year and they were all labeled as fine.

Granted that Rocket and the rest of the Guardians' books have gone up a lot since the first movie trailer came out, but $232 is just ridiculous. A quick search on that book on ebay shows that price is outrageously out of line with reality. I guess now we know what happens when movie-related comic book speculation collides with Mile High's pricing strategy. Apparently the effect is not additive, but exponential!

My lcs has had this series for sale for a while. I know the price on #1 is $20. So... less than that for #4.
It's a cool series. I really liked it when I was a kid. Very interesting earlyish Mignola art.

Very interesting earlyish Mignola art. That's about what I paid, and I agree it's a really fun series and it definitely offers up a great look at Mignola's early work.

Typically those Rocket issues are going for $15-20 each right now (we have a 3 and 4 in shop in NM with $15 each on them but would probably take $10 if someone came in and offered). I lucked into the run myself at Origins last June in $1 boxes so got all 4 in VF/NM for a grand total of $4 give or take (I ended up buying 46 books from the dealer and he charged me $40 for the lot). The book that seems to be getting the attention the most though is the DnA GotG #1. A few months ago we got a full run in and sold the #1 for $40 and it took about 4 days for the entire run to sell though once we put it out (most issues were in the $5 to $10 range each). 3 weeks ago (after the trailers hit and buzz was building we got another #1 in, and put it out for $85 and it sold within an hour of us putting it out, no attempt to haggle, the guy just saw it grabbed it and paid the price on it. Now this is a shop where back issues are a minute portion of our sales, and the new GotG series only sells 6-8 copies a month for us between pulls and off the rack purchases, so it's not a hotbed of Guardians or back issue activity, but the DnA series is moving well. The periphery stuff is moving slower though (we have Rocket 3 & 4, Hulk 271, a first Nebula in Avengers, and some Thanos related stuff that has sat for a bit without moving that all came in at the same time as that 2nd GotG #1. We're waiting to see what happens with the actual movie release and if they haven't moved yet, will bring them to Champion City con this fall to see if we get some action there.

I haven't picked up the new ongoing, is it good? The first issue was a lot of fun. Skottie Young is a genius illustrator, and the colorist's choices gave it a real Brendan McCarthy feel. I'd recommend it if you're looking for something fun with great art.

Good grief. Even the real conservative figures here are nice to see. At least if this keeps up by Christmas I know I got back up for cash if need it. Every GotG or GotG origin or first appearance books I bought for cover price or less. The only one I don't have is Groot's. That I still have in a reprint monsters book. It was too much to pay 7-8 years ago when I cam across it. Can't imagine what a unscrupulous ___ along with naive buyer could get that one up to.

Well now we can see why Chuck was so grumpy about SDCC. People there weren't stupidly paying this much for crap run-filler issues

Groot's first appearance is currently selling for more than Dr. Doom's. A 7.0 recently sold for $3500. Tales to Astonish #13 is apparently pretty hard to find, so supply is quite limited. Even the reprint, Where Monsters Dwell #6, is doing okay, going for $20-40 based on recent ebay sales.

On a whim I decided to look up what I paid for my copies of the Rocket Raccoon limited series. It seems that for issues 1, 3, and 4 I paid ten cents each. To complete the series, I had to splash out fifty cents for issue 2. If I were of a mind to sell, it looks like I could get a pretty decent return on my 80 cent investment.
Those were fun days, when they used to have a little comic show every few months, run primarily by one dealer who had dozens of long boxes of books for 10 cents each. Being a poor college student at the time, it was quite nice to get such nice bargains.
