I use Zeus Comics from Dallas, Tx. (and have for going on 10 years at this point) it's run by Richard Neal (who used to post on CBR/YABS as Degada), and consistently wins awards for "best of Dallas" here is their website: www.zeuscomics.com/the way it works (for my stuff at least) is that every Sunday, I get an email from them that contains a link to the "checklist" for what is arriving on Wednesday of that week. you can take a peek at what the checklist looks like from the link at the top of the website - filled with an amazing amount of information on the books, and Richard doesn't make you pre-order anything.. you just select what you'd like (although in the past, I've pre-requested unique items (such as an expensive statue, or a limited version of a hardback, so he knew to order it for me). anyways. . . each Sunday I fill out the checklist, and then submit to him (he emails me confirmation list on Monday). The way *I* am set up, is to ship the last Wednesday of each month. . tho you can ship weekly if you want. for my Monthly ship, he typically picks up shipping cost (usually whenever my tab is over $120, which it almost always is since I only get books shipped Monthly, he pays for shipping. . but not sure how it works). Zeus also offers a discount. . .but again, not sure how much for new subscribers these days (I'm grandfathered in). but if you reach out to them to check, mention you're an old poster from way back on CBR, and that bert recommended you check them out. POSSIBLY can get you some decent discount I know several folks who buy from Zeus!.. . highly recommended. I've been to Zeus and they're very good.

Not as fancy, but still excellent shops in Hollywood, both Golden Apple and Meltdown Comics.

Have you tried throwing your zip code into the comic shop locator to see if there are any nearby shops you might not be aware of that could be a possible replacement? Sometimes you find shops you didn't know existed... comic shop locator-M

Sometimes you find shops you didn't know existed... comic shop locator-M Good suggestion. I tried, but there were only two listings I didn't recognize. For one of them, their website called it an "online comic store", so if they have an actual store it's not their top priority. The other was a place I recognized (which wasn't very good) that had just changed it's name.
So far it looks like my options are the inconvenient store in Milwaukee (Lost Worlds of Wonder) or online like Things From Another World. Still deciding which way to go.

Yesterday, I was told by a friend of mine that there is a LCS that I need to check out and it's a mere 15 minutes of driving time and has ample of parking both store and street. They only specialize in DC and Marvel Comics and I checked them out last night sometimes after 7pm and they open everyday from 9am to 9pm and open until 10pm on Friday. They closed on Sunday.
So, I talked to the owner who happen to be a friend of Jeff and he carries Batman 66 and Wonder Woman 77 and I'm definitely shifting my gears from Bellevue to this place that's close by to pick up my Comics. They also deals with DC Archives and Marvel Masterworks too and they can order books for you and get it in your hands in proper time.
They do everything via e-mail and when Batman 66 and Wonder Woman 77 arrives they will send you an e-mail to pick up a copy of it and reserve one for you to have. I'm going to have a talk with Jeff this weekend of what books that DC and Marvel Comics that I might be interested in and proceed from there. I doubt that I will pick up a title or two.
15 minutes verses 50 minutes of driving time ... I take 15 minutes anytime, anywhere, etc ...

My friend Ben and I both took our list to Kowabunga in Oconomowc, I was very sad to see the email about Craig and Shane closing so soon after they had their last signing... I expected something totally different... in fact I found your post when i was reading the newspaper articles about them closing... hoping it wasn't true I played Magic at Kowabunga before so it was pretty simple to switch over since I am there every other friday anyways. The guys there are nice and very knowledgeable and they have a ton of back issues and high dollar books. Mainly they are open 7 days a week which is a major factor for me as i work odd hours. Otherwise there is lost world of wonders in milwaukee off oklahoma or Collectors Edge, i think they have 4 locations. There is a place in menomonee falls too but they are only open like 3 days a week from 4 to 7 so I have never actually BEEN there and can't vouch for them. We can all get together and have a Neptune mourning group hug...

The last I'd heard a couple years ago was that Kowabunga was a few weeks from closing unless they got a new investor. I guess they worked it out. From what they said though, Kowabunga has a lot of back issues but not so much on new issues and sells out a lot.
I saw the one in Menomonee Falls, Arcade Comics, on Comics Locator, but it appeared to be mostly an online shop (the owner's description on Google calls it an online store) and the meager hours that you mentioned. So that was off the list.
I've been to several of the Collector's Edge locations, and was never impressed by them, especially for new issues.
That left me with Lost Worlds of Wonder on Oklahoma, which is a ways from Waukesha. But it's the only decent choice left, unless I go with an online store. But at least they have the cat that lives in the store. She's cool to visit.

Yeah, nice to have a therapy group! There should be beer involved... As for Kowabunga they got a new owner completely and new staff. Its pretty huge difference from a few years ago. They kicked out the riff raff that used to cause trouble and kept people (me included) from gaming there for a while. It's pretty well lit and clean too, sort of like Neptune if they sold other collectibles but its just a much older building. I had heard that too about not many new issues but they have a good amount, especially of rebirth, and i might venture to say more than Craig was getting in over the last few months. the only new books i haven't been able to get right off the shelf have been a few small press books that i doubt anyone is getting. My guess is that when the store was closing with the previous owner they probably didn't order much and that ended up sticking as the reputation. I started going to Neptune because the old cowabunga staff was, let's be nice, very much like the simpsons comic book guy. I went back when they got new ownership and word spread about them being a cool place to game again but kept my sub list at Neptune because I liked them too. Either way it might be worth your while to check it out before switching totally to online... p.s. the kowabunga guys do a podcast called the Kow cast that i started listening to last week and its pretty good. They did one about about diego comic con and it was excellent. My name is Jerry by the way, and maybe we'll bump into each other at Neptune in the next few weeks

My LCS is still alive and kicking but onlinestores provide a valuable backup service, especially if there are exclusives. I use Midtown Comics in NY, and several new-issue stores I found on Ebay like bombshell comics, comics-r-us8 etc. They listed fairly recent books at a considerable discount, bagged, boarded, in NM and I've been a repeat customer since, ever so often.

I don't shop for new comics any longer but when I did, the last place I used (for about 10 years) was Midtown Comics. Still pass by it every week. There's probably other shops that give deeper discounts, I believe Midtown is $20 credit every $100 you spend-at least that was the in-store deal. However they are totally reliable and professional, they have access to just about anything being published including international, they get all the exclusive, limited edition items including their own made-for-them issues (if you are into those things) and everything is bagged and boarded. I never had any problems in their stores, be it Times Square, Wall Street or Grand Central. And they have a pretty large selection of back issues as well Now, if only someone can turn on the tap for Coldwater to start pouring out again
