Britain's greatest superhero debuted in Captain Britain #1, dated 1th October 1976-and I didn't want to let his 40th pass without comment. He's been my hero since I was six years old, and dammit, he still makes me proud to be British!

My first memory of Brian Braddock, which would have been in a box of British weeklies some time before I was born... And when I started to build my own collection of Marvel Team-Up...I just had to get this first. I've always preferred the classic look too.

To this day, I don't know that I've ever read a Captain Britain comic, but the first comic mags I ever owned were the Captain Britain run which I found in the musty basement of my old LCS and bought for next to nothing because I liked the covers. I still need to get around to reading them.
Still need to read the original run of Excalibur, for that matter.

Captain Britain Costumes that I know of ...I like the original costume very much, but when they did the costume at the bottom - it's purely is Captain Britain and I just loved the way the Union Jack is incorporated here in this fashion and I felt that the main colors should be blue and white with a touch of red. I just loved this character and when Marvel Comics had him partnering with Captain America was a stroke of genius and I wished they use him more in the world of Marvel Universe. 40th Birthday ... Congratulations in order for Captain Britain and Brian Braddock one of the best contemporary heroes that Marvel ever created!

I love the first Alan Davis design, but I must admit, the original costume is still striking and unique-I think what really makes it is the full face mask leaving the hair exposed, which I always liked. Super Spider-Man & Captain Britain was a great title, I thought. And had some really fun, underrated CB stories.

The early issues of Excalibur really are worth getting around to, they were an oasis of fun in the desert of mutant misery of the late eighties.

CB's first encounter with the wider Marvel Universe. Can you "guess the identity of our shocking super-villain"? And what I think may be the rarest CB title, his last solo special from Marvel UK. I only ever saw two copies.

Much much much prefer Cap's original costume. I also though he had some great villains. The Reaper! Hurricane! Dr Synne! They should have been contenders. I wrote a piece of fanfic that I've been meaning to follow up for years. Maybe this will inspire me. I've got the story mapped out. But here's the Return of the Reaver.

Like it-particularly Neil Tarrant and Derek Skinner. But I feel I should point out that Hurricane at least has returned a couple of times since 1976, though he's never again faced CB.

He did, but completely different from the armoured figure. It wasn't really the same character.

I agree the version seen in Gene Dogs might as well have been a different character, but the original version has been seen a couple of times in American titles. He was listed as a potential recruit for the Initiative program after Civil War, and I believe he also fought the Fantastic Four.

Found it! I've been hunting for Hurricane's return for a couple of days; it was in the 2005 Marvel Holiday Special!
