That's an excellent gesture on their part.

It's easy to forget that the people in charge now had nothing to do with the ill treatment of yesteryear. Certainly things have gotten MUCH better for creators, particularly with the opportunities they have to own their own material at Image, and even to an extent at Marvel and DC.

There was a piece on THE BEAT in which Mantlo's brother Michael broadly intimated that Marvel was helping the family out "sub rosa" even though legally they don't have to.

They also flew Jim Starlin and his significant other to the premiere. They didn't have to.

With all the bad and disheartening news out there these days, this is an awesome story.

When I spoke to Roy Thomas a few months ago, he said that he was already promised advance screenings for Avengers 2. How awesome is that?

That's really heartwarming, and I say that with all sincerity.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, mrp. Yeah, Marvel does a lot of things I wouldn't, but thank God they're helping Bill Mantlo and showing him some respect. He's practically the epitome of late 70's Marvel and I love the stuff he wrote from the Hulk, Micronauts, Rom, Marvel Two-in-One, etc.
