I'm having one of my patented big ideas and would like the community's input.
One dilemma we've had since the start of the CCF is where to put review threads, both because too many of them being updated too often can overwhelm the classic comics section and because reviewers working tirelessly on their threads often feel they aren't getting enough exposure.
I may have found a solution that also enhances the kind of content we offer here.
What if we had a category, directly below the Classic Comics category, called "Staff Writers" where authors of respected, frequently updated review threads (and potentially other content, like Prince Hal's "A Comic Lover's Memories," for example) would each be given their own section containing each thread they author that they are regularly updating? Each Staff Writer would be responsible for updating with new content one day of the week (one author would update every Wednesday, for example, while another might choose Sunday.
What this might look like...
The category on the index page:
An individual Staff Writer's section:
Perks for the community would include:
- a dedicated section for frequently updated, high-interest review threads
- guaranteed new content on a regular basis from members you enjoy following
Perks for staff writers would include:
- Greater visibility for their work
- A custom rank providing them with access to invisible sections where they can upload articles and reviews in advance and tweak them ahead of their deadlines
Responsibilities would include:
- Updating at least once per week on your chosen day
- maintaining a certain level of quality (as outlined here)
Obviously, these staff writer positions would not be made available to just anyone who wants one. Express invitations would go out to a select few, based upon past and current output, as well as past Jamie Award nominations and member responses/feedback. The goal would be to showcase the very best of what we have here that is likely to be of high interest to members and visitors. I wouldn't nominate some of my own threads for that kind of an honor
So what do you think?
