First of all, Shax, I'm flattered to be included with the heavyweights like Confessor and RR! One advantage: since these kinds of threads are not updated as frequently as threads like "Meanwhile, the various games, and "On Sale This Week," they can slide down the front page quickly. So-o-o, if you want to spotlight them in this way, I think the dedicated location makes sense. I do worry that the notion that some are worthy of inclusion and some are not might hurt some feelings. OTOH, I trust the mods' judgment. In the past, when they think a thread should be merged or moved elsewhere, It's alwys been for the best. I would trust them to make decisions in this situation as well. I don't mind deadlines in the abstract, but in my own case, I was less able to post for a while because I was teaching a class and directing a play that went up in the first week of November. Now I have a bit more time, and it's easier, but that's no guarantee that I won't get smacked again with a job or commitment. And others no doubt have it worse than I, because I'm retired... Again, I'd rely on the mods' judgment if it seemed like a thread seemed dormant. And of course, would expect any of the "staff" to give a heads-up to the mods if they knew they would be falling behind. In sum, I think it's a good idea, just worry about a caste system developing, and posters facing occasional issues with deadlines feeling as if they're letting down the CCF, but I trust the mods. Hope this makes sense. No, that's a very legitimate concern. At the very least, the decision would need to factor in Jaimee Award nominations so that community input is factored in and not just mine or anyone else's opinions. The criteria would be something concrete and objective, like: -Nominated and seconded for at least one best review thread Jamie or is a column-like thread with x number of views. -Meets all suggested requirements for a successful review thread, even if it isn't a review thread. -Has updated one or more authored threads in the past three months Something like that would trigger an automatic invite. Thus, less likely for there to be hurt feelings.

Gotcha! Therefore, anyone could "save" a thread with nomination that was seconded.
I like it.

Curious if I've addressed the concerns of any who have voted "no" or "needs tweaking". If not, I'd love to hear your concerns. I do not intend to move forward without a clear mandate from the community, and the voting results right now are anything but clear.

As I said I like the idea I just think it needs to be simplified somehow.

I really meant everyone else who hasn't chimed in yet

I originally voted "Yes" and changed my mind to "Maybe, but the idea needs some tweaking" and what I have been reading so far from everyone here - I understand what's is going to happen here and I have no problems dealing with it.

Your post about clear, objective criteria pretty much took away any reservations I had Shax so you have a go vote from me.

Well it looks the community is mixed on this, so we'll put a pin in it for now.

I think I proposed this to Shax a while ago, but my idea was to make a section for all review threads. I feel calling the section " staff writers" is a little too exclusive and might discourage a new person from doing reviews of books that they have an interest for.

I feel calling the section " staff writers" is a little too exclusive and might discourage a new person from doing reviews of books that they have an interest for. We started a thread asking if there was interest in this, and it didn't get far. I'm personally against this as it diminishes the visibility of those threads to the casual member who isn't outright looking for them. When you have between three and five featured writers, you can make them very visible and enticing to the casual surfer. When you build a section for thirty or more review threads, they become invisible to anyone who isn't already looking for review threads.

I think a separate section of its own with maybe a couple of the most popular stickied would be best. Section as opposed to subsection because the reviews could also encompass the new weekly release reviews so needs to be separated from classic or new release sections. Personally I don't really have the time to read many of the reviews of specific books, but have been making time for the new release reviews because theyre more related to a lot of what I read, and cos I just had to review a book in one, but aren't driven enough to want to start my own reviews, but hey with a review section one might even just have a thread to review stuff one reads, like a real column writer, and then one could get like famous n shtt.

I'm for it
I think there should be a thread for nothing but Reviews with regular reviewers having a thread at the top as they contribute their weekly input, and others are allowed to contribute as they like, when they like, and are featured in their own dedicated thread underneath those regular weekly threads, like 5 that Shax suggested.
The ones that contribute weekly should be prominently displayed and others are still in the review thread with their own space beneath but don't have the commitment that a regular does.
By letting anyone have their own thread it also helps keep the Review thread from have a thread for every single review.
Make sense ?
I haven't contributed anything more than a few one paragraph impressions of certain reads but not reviews, but would be willing to contribute.
If this idea goes like Shax proposes, it might get some to contribute more, like I'd consider. I haven't done it but if we moved forward, I would, maybe with a Valiant review thread, as I'm reading all their titles.
