What does this mean for threads like "Cover Contest" and "favorite splash pages" and the like which consist solely of art? Well, I'm certainly no lawyer, but I believe the Cover Contest is fine, since by its very nature, it only requires a poster to use one image per post. The "Great Splash Pages" should also be fine, since most people only post one splash page per post and, after all, a splash page is essentially just one big panel. But, going forward, if you are posting multiple splash pages in that thread, writing some accompanying text to outline why you consider your examples to be great splash pages might be a good idea. As I say, no one on the admin/moderating staff is a lawyer, we are simply erring on the side of caution. From the information provided at www.copyright.gov, it's obvious that there really is no clear number of pages allowed that would be defined as fair use. Each case seems to be judged according to several independent factors. In a court situatuion, they would look at both the quantity and quality of the copyrighted material that was used, and the context in which it was used. This is why we have said that, as a rule of thumb, the text relating to an image should be bigger/longer than the scan provided, and posting significant amounts of anything that's not in the public domain is a no-no. Hope that helps.

I actually prefer it that way, although I have a very fast connection and pics load up fast, I don't like scrolling through too many pics in one post.

I like the update for another reason- anyone could post page of artwork. I'd rather read something of substance to go along an image.

I have problems with loading speed if there are a lot of youtube videos embedded in a thread, but not usually from a lot of large images, but I can imagine on some mobile devices that could be more of a problem.

Yep, it can be time consuming waiting for the pic uploads and then having to scrawl through it all for one measly sentence or comment. Especially when those folks who don't delete long pics/etc from when they "quote" a response. Just makes the threads longer and more difficult to navigate.

Amy Cooper. George Floyd. It's been a rough couple of days. Yikes. As someone elsewhere stated:
Buckle up. Gonna be a bumpy ride.

Saw this little beauty in the parking lot at work today, a Porshe 924S. Never seen one before in real life or a Porshe in general Not much of a car geek, but I do appreciate a good looking ride

Well, we had to lock one thread about this topic, and here we are again. This thread is temporarily locked. Let me make it abundantly clear that if we shut down a conversation in one thread because it is getting too heated, that does not mean it is okay to continue the conversation elsewhere on the board.
We tried to allow a place for discussing this civilly, and it devolved badly. We're not going to allow that to happen again.

Okay, let's try this again.
Please remember -- it is NOT that the mod team has a personal objection to politically charged conversation. It's that, every time we have a politically charged conversation, members here get upset, members here say and do things they would never otherwise do, and members here end up leaving for good.
We SHOULD be able to discuss what happened to Mr. Floyd, collectively grieve, and have a frank, civil conversation about the events that have ensued. Unfortunately, we have already seen that multiple members of our community cannot handle doing that without injecting politics into the mix, and that others cannot refrain from taking personal offense at this and then responding in kind.
And your all-volunteer mod staff cannot stay online 24/7 to watch a conversation and ensure it is not devolving.
So, for the time being:
1. Please no discussion of Mr. Floyd beyond sentiments of sympathy. Criticizing of the police and the system is a profoundly important discussion, as is talk of the protests and riots, but apparently folks cannot handle these topics here. Discuss it in another online community.
2. Absolutely no discussion of Trump or politics. AGAIN, these are profoundly important discussions that should happen, but this community repeatedly proves it cannot handle it.
We are here to talk comics and enjoy each other's company. I wish we could be a one-stop shop for all conversation topics, but other members of the community here have decided that we cannot do that without the community being blown wide apart with a storm of personal offense, so we have a choice to either have members turn on each other, others storm off never to return, or to prohibit sensitive topics of discussion during this heated time.
I'm an English Language Arts teacher and a huge proponent of free speech, free thought, and open discussion. I and the mod team do not make this pronouncement lightly.
Meanwhile, I don't intend to spend my day debating this with anyone.

I don't understand why adults choose to become offended instead of avoiding voluntary threads they do not like, or why the management has to decide for them. I find it very difficult to enjoy talking about funny books with people while ignoring the world (quite literally) burning outside our windows. To your point, I am not arguing with you. I understand your position, and it is your-house-your-rules so to speak, but I will not pretend I am not profoundly disappointed and frustrated by it. I've said my piece.
Stay safe everyone.

I don't understand why adults choose to become offended instead of avoiding voluntary threads they do not like, or why the management has to decide for them. The thing is that most people are interested by important things like politics and societal upheavals. I do understand why folks would take part in such discussions, even if they know they might turn south and that such threads should better be avoided. I love a good political or religious discussion, myself. However, we all know that these subjects are prone to give rise to heated arguments. In heated arguments, people often end up insulting each other, directly or indirectly. And then we end up losing community members, either because they no longer feel at home here, or because they broke the rules too many times. That's not what we want... This community was built so we could discuss old comics and related matters. Discussing politics too would be cool, but the past has shown that the price for that is a heavy one; we have lost several respected members over the years. I understand and respect that, as I'm sure does the entire moderating team. It would be cool to be able to discuss politics without risking our entire community. Unfortunately, it's clear that it is extremely hard to do so, and the moderating team has been put under great pressure lately because of it. Much better to cut our losses, and leave the most divisive subjects to other discussion boards.
