I’m the person to cut costs on everything I personally consume from food to alcohol to comic books to save money for the luxuries my family enjoys. I guess because I saw my father make those personal sacrifices growing up.
I’m also the person shopping for another Xbox1 to put in our room so I can play the games I want and my wife has something for the streaming services and blu-ray she watches just so my boys have a console to play the games they like and watch the things they want. I also grew up at a time adults took priority and children just had to live with it. I won’t do that to my boys.

I can’t make consistent boiled eggs to save my life. I end up obliterating the egg while peeling the shell half the time. ok. . .easy peasy: 1) put eggs in saucepan, and cover with just enough cold water to cover the eggs (you dont' really want them floating, but you want them under the water) 2) put saucepan on stove and turn burner to high, and wait until rolling boil. 3) turn heat off.
4) place lid on saucepan, set time for 8 minutes, and walk away.
5) after 8 minutes, bring pan to sink, and dump hot water, refilling with cold water. . let sit in sink for 5 minutes.
then peel under slow dripping cold water.
perfect hard boiled eggs, and by peeling under cold water, the shells should basically just slide off.
Good method.
I do basically the same thing, except I do a 1-minute rolling boil and a 12-minute off-heat soak (with lid, of course). I usually boil a dozen at a time, which is why I use the 12 minute soak. The rest of my process is identical to yours. This also lets the yolks come out a little stiffer, but still not turning green. Makes better egg salad & other recipes requiring chopped eggs.
The 8-minute soak will leave the yolk slightly softer (but not runny like "soft boiled")... your method definitely makes for better deviled eggs. Depends on what you want.

^ I do 6-8 at a time (that I use to chop up in Salads). . so can confirm the yolks are solid, not runny

Well my presence been requested by my son’s girlfriend’s parents. So tomorrow I’m going to meet them. I’ve avoided it for a few months now so I knew this day was coming. My wife has already met them both several times. She says they’re nice people and all. But this is about as fun of anticipation as meeting my wife’s parents the first time. A little bit of liquid courage and my wife by my side and behind the wheel maybe I can accomplish small talk with complete strangers. 😬

A local grocery chain, Jewel Foods, sells shelled hard-boiled eggs packed in a standard plastic drinking cup with a snap-on lid, 7 or 8 eggs for $1.99. Easy buy for me.
Also, today I learned that a group of jellyfish is called a smack, which feels perfect, though I can't say exactly why.

It's because they were originally going to call it a "Smucker", but didn't want to get sued for trademark infringement by the jelly company of the same name.

I gave up on boiling eggs a while ago. The easiest thing to do, if you have a steamer, is to steam them. My steamer has two levels with little divots for six eggs to stand up in each, so it cooks a dozen at a time, about 20-30 minutes. Let them cool, done. Shells peel off pretty easily too. Made 3 dozen for Easter.

I've been playing chess with a woman from Russia and I thought 'Nasty' was just her moniker like 'Jezebel' used to be mine, but it's actually their way of referring to 'Anastasia' and not the derog way we use it in our language.
So I learned something new in chess, without being chess.

I left the house today!!!
The last time I had been outside of my house was when I got home from the hospital on Thursday, April 1. I had a couple of errands I wanted to run, so after eating breakfast, shaving, and pulling myself together, I got in the car and went on my way. Quick trip to the bank (used the drive-thru), then I went to my LCS for the first time in a month to pick up the few books on my pull list. After that, still feeling pretty good, I drove down into the city and went to the big comic book shop down there to look for one specific book (which they unfortunately did not have), then I went to another comic shop to look at Magic cards for a little while and see if they might have the book I wanted (which they did not either).
My wife insisted I take my pulse oximeter so that I could monitor my oxygen levels and adapt accordingly, which was a small price to pay; they were a little lower than usual but still better than they have been recently. All in all, I was gone for about 6 hours. I am a little tired tonight, but I'm not exhausted like I have been for the past two-plus weeks, so hopefully the worst is behind me and it will just be steady improvement from here on out.

Have my Johnson&Johnson Covid one and done scheduled for Saturday 4/17/21 at 10:15am. Hoping for no adverse effects like the small minority have noted. As they used to say in Laugh-In: here comes the shot, here comes the shot, sock it to me sock it to me sock it to me! I leave it all up to the Fickle Finger of Fate...

I had my J&J shot on Thursday and can happily report there've been zero side effects (I was uncharacteristically fatigued on Friday but can't definitively attribute it to the vaccine). Here's hoping the same proves true for you.
Cei-U! I summon the big ol' sigh of relief!

Good to hear, but now I am curious what specific book you are on the hunt for. -M Conan the Barbarian #14, with Elric. After having a good think about it last night and checking prices for it on eBay, I've decided I'm just going to buy the second Conan Epic Collection so I have the story rather than keep hunting. Beat-up copies (things I would almost NEVER put in my collection) are $25 or more, while Fine copies push $75 or more. I can use an Amazon GC I got from a former employer and get the Epic for less than $30, which also gives me the option of selling the othet books in that collection (except the Red Sonja appearances, because I want to keep those). Then I have something nice and portable to take with me to read on vacation or to sit out on my deck, rather than worrying about the floppie.
