@bert
Looks like you had a blast, but that stuff is so not for me anymore, but love that you had such a good time. Sorry to hear of your loss though, but glad you were able to still make it a great day. And yes, the photos are amazing, and some of the drops on those rides made my stomach lurch just thinking about them.

And I'm over here joking about still having hair at all... If only I could wear my beard on top of my head... I would honestly not mind. I've told my wife if I start loosing my hair I'm going the Telly Savalas route. I ain't pulling no Patrick Stewart. And I'd be perfectly happy bald. But until that point, I have to have hair. The one time in our marriage I shaved my head without telling her, she was about to hand me divorce papers lol
Fortunately, I'm not to that point yet. My hair has thinned a whole lot in the last 10 years, but I still have hair all over, no bald dome and no "laurel wreath". These days I just keep it cut super short (#4 all over, in barber terms) simply because the longer it gets, the the worse it lays on my head. The shortest I ever had it cut was with a #1 trimmer blade... and that's just because the barber mis-heard me when I said "#4". It was too late when he realized it, and I just said "go for it-- it'll grow back." I went home that night and my wife asked if I had joined the Marines!

We had to bring down another century-old maple near the house, the second in less than a year. A third one isn't long for this world.
I was worried that some disease was threatening the whole forest but the arborist we hired observed that the dead trees were all near the house, which is only seven years old. According to him, old trees are quite susceptible to stress, such as that caused by having foundations dug right next to their root system; those dead trees probably suffered from the construction and wilted away.
New maple sprouts will rejuvenate the forest, but still... at my age I don't expect to see them fully grown. Bummer.
Where is Swamp Thing when you need him?

I’m guessing it burns nicely and that you’ll have maybe a cord out of those two trees depending on how old and tall they are.

I still have my hair in the same place on my head and face, but it’s a whole lot whiter in places than it used to be.

Now I want a Dr. Butterskotch. it tastes JUST like the drink that shall not be named (ie: so Universal doesn't sue us).
LOL. . . since I knew the folks from SFFT and the group that organized the trip will see my TR, I was very careful not to comment that it's nice to be able to get a version of "Butterbeer" (whoops. . I named it) in Texas

I've never burned maple, either, but now it's got me thinking: does it produce a nice aroma when it burns? That's the case with wood from apple trees. My dad used to put apple branches in the mix when he smoked meat and also when barbecuing (something I still do occasionally).

It’s also great for smoking food, It’s particularly good for poultry and seafood, but also good for pork. It’s a slightly sweet mellow smoke. It’s pretty much impossible to overwhelm any meat with maple. It’s a little wimpy for beef though.

Around here, maple is the most sought-after essence for wood burning stoves. So it's not a complete loss.
