Yeah, sorry not sorry. You guys had your chance to do ads in a reasonable manner, but the gross intrusiveness and lack of quality control (some are straight malware) means you lost your chance. I ad block wherever I can now, except here.

Is it just me, or did the usefulness of internet search results peak years ago? For just moderately-difficult questions (and sometimes simple ones), it can easily take half an hour to find a useful answer, if you're lucky. The search engine (I've tried a bunch) returns lots of irrelevant garbage, and then the linked-to web pages, even if they have the answer somewhere, hide the information somewhere and their own internal site searches are horribly lacking. I seem to remember a time when I didn't always end up trembling in rage and cursing the stupidity of humanity when trying to get an answer to something from the internet. Not that I don't have other reasons to curse the stupidity of humanity, but I wasn't expecting to add "internet searching" to the list. Does anyone still sell encyclopedias? I used to watch the PBS Kids Game Show "Where In Time Is Carmen Sandiego?" and often the grand prize was a slew of Encyclopedia Britannica books, which I always thought was a horrid idea for a reward. But I'm sure in the pre-wide spread internet days it was an important luxury. My grandparents had a couple of World Book Encyclopedias Year Books that I thought were neat because they had a month by month listing of things that happened during the previous year along with descriptions of rice harvesting

Happy Summer Solstice to all those in the Northern Hemisphere. Happy (Winter?) Solstice to those in the Southern.

A further thought: I wanted to Google to see whether England football team players get paid to play for their country. A friend told me they don’t get paid to represent their country. So I went to look for such info. One search engine was crap. Thankfully, DuckDuckGo had the answer. Maybe DuckDuckGo is less concerned about sponsored links/ads - and more with search results.

DuckDuckGo has been my go-to search engine for about 3 years now... I find that they don't "steer" me with quite as much commercialized bent as does Google and Bing.
Not perfect by any stretch, but at least I don't have to use Google nearly as often as before.

I have set DuckDuckGo as my default. Now I’ll see if I get relevant results rather than the usual ad-driven crap from the others.

I see you guys like to live dangerously, I see people like that dancing in the British countryside and I'd be running the other direction as I'd know that lurking just around the corner would inevitably be this:

I pretty much only know about Morris Dancing from humorous fiction. Mostly Robert Rankin and Terry Pratchett.

Had anyone mentioned "Morris dancing" before I read your post, this is probably the image that would have come to mind :

Just want to reiterate that, contrary to popular belief, Morris dancing was NOT invented by Morris Albert...
However, this has nothing to do with the creepy, mysterious floating baby head at the beginning of this video (upper right corner of the screen, about 6 seconds in)...and now you know.

Paramount+ has launched in the UK. I am tempted. But how many services can one afford?
Is Paramount+ late to the party, given the dominance of Netflix, Prime and Disney+? Now, I am the guy with the lame analogies, so here’s another one: if three well-established greengrocers in an area had customer loyalty, and did a good job, could a new greengrocer attract customers effectively?
For me, the selling point of a streaming service has to be a good mix of retro and modern stuff, with a commitment to new programming. Paramount+ ticks those boxes, but if I subscribe, one of the other services is gonna have to go.
