I had a number of potential problems bothering me the past few days. They all ended happily today One- I'm probably buying a new pc at the end of the year. I purchased a Microsoft Office Suite seperately 6 years ago to activate excel, word etc. The purchase came with a card with the activation key code. When I get my new pc and transfer my programs and all from the old to the new, I'm sure I'll need the code as well. But I couldn't find the card. Went thru many YouTube tutorials on how to retrieve the code, all to no avail. But I did find the card today. The codes those tutorials revealed were all garbage Two- I'm enrolled in a rent freeze program and I was approved for 2 more years at the beggining of June, continuing with the rent I've been paying since 2016. Saves me a nice sum each month. My rent is on auto-pay. In july they deducted the full amount. Found out I was wrong assuming my approval would work automatically. Had to send the building mangement a copy of the approval. Which i did a few weeks ago and now i see my August rent is at the correct rate and they credited the overpay from last month as well Three- I'm barely qualified for the SNAP food program and was only getting $16 a month. But when the pandemic hit, they no longer pro-rated people and everyone gets the maximum amount which is about $230. That's a game changer for my monthly budget. In NYC the day the money gets deposited changes month-by-month and finding a current schedule is hard to find. The one I did find for the 2nd half of 2022 shows it was due last week but didn't arrive. Was not looking forward to dealing with the bureaucracy to find out my status. But today the SNAP money came thru All those soon to reach retirement, make sure you check the programs you are entitled. It all varies state by state, programs can be available by just reaching age 62 and most programs don't count what you have as savings, only income is part of it's calculations. For instance, I do qualify for the mass transit program with 50% off all subways and buses. I get 50% off Amazon Prime monthly fees too I hear his cue...

It's just a pain in the ass to deal with, and they get their money from corporate clients anyway. Keep your software the default, guys.

I use Libreoffice, pretty much the exact same thing as Windows Office software but totally free

Adobe's been doing the same exact thing and yet they continue to wonder why their stuff is the most pirated software out there I use Libreoffice, pretty much the exact same thing as Windows Office software but totally free I don't think Adobe is wondering. My understanding is that Adobe stops just shy of admitting they know individuals and students pirate the crap out of CS so they are hooked on it as the standard because they know companies will pay for the professional license. I've used a handful of the open source alternatives, but the minor compatibility and formatting discrepancies make it not worth it when the rest of the world uses Office. I mean this for professional things, mind you. Free is dandy for personal use.

I use LibreOffice at home, it's free. I'm fed up of all the Microsoft Office subscriptions but still use Excel or Word at work if I have to. When I was a teen, you'd buy a new PC and get MO without having to sub every year, sigh, miss the good old days.

It was a one-time payment, no annual fees. Just have to make sure you safeguard that key code they give you Back then, I don't think there was anything close to comprehensive available for free. Today, it seems to be a different story

I gotta tell you, gang, I fear I'm approaching total burnout on researching and writing about Golden Age comics... and I still have 3-and-a-half chapters to write and a rapidly approaching deadline. I worked myself into bad health on the first book and I've been trying to pace myself to avoid that this time around but... I'll try to power through the '46 chapter, but then I think I'm gonna have to take a week off and do nothing comics-related or I really will burn out. My publisher'll just have to understand.
Ah well, thanks for letting me vent.

I wish you the best with it, Cei-U!, and I hope you find the right balance between not burning out and getting it done. Good luck!

Hang in there, Kurt!
It's good that you have plenty of brain cells to spare, but don't overdo it with the neuronal frying!

You and your impressive mind will be the better for it. Enjoy the rest! Time to read a Russian novel or two.

I use OpenOffice. Well, I don't use it that much, but it's there if I need it, usually to open documents.
I'm still using a really old version of Photoshop because I hate the subscription model.

Picked my 1500th avocado for the season.
Who'd have thought avocado sales would get me a new wardrobe for 2023?

It's always difficult to find a balance when the thing you love and used to turn to for a break to get away form work becomes work and is no longer a refuge. It happened to me when I was writing ttrpgs. Some find the balance, some never do and burn out. I was the more towards the latter. Follow your bliss Kurt, and find the place and the schedule that works for you. Burnout is no joke, so do what you need to do. -M

(...) Time to read a Russian novel or two. Oh, my lord, do you want him to be suicidal in addition to burned out?
