ps The chain was begun in the US, in 1934, inspired by J Wellington Wimpy, of Thimble theater/Popeye; but, had no more than 25 locations, at its peak, and there were only 7 left, in 1977, when the founder died. It was licensed to J Lyons and Co, in the UK, in 1954 and it is that branch that still exists, internationally. The US restaurants are all gone and trademarks expired.
J Wellington Wimpy was licensed, for a time in the US. The UK mascot, with the Beefeater uniform, was introduced in 1978, after the company was acquired by United Biscuits. I suspect that was cheaper than licensing the Popeye character.

I ate at 5 guys burger and it was outrageously expensive. I think it was 10 years ago and I paid 20 for a burger.

I ate at 5 guys burger and it was outrageously expensive. I think it was 10 years ago and I paid 20 for a burger. Five Guys is ludicrously expensive. They have good burgers (for what they are) and damn good fries. But they are overpriced by about 50%. |

I almost never eat fast food. And when I do 95+% of the time it's a local place. You know, those local places that were willing to give out gift certificates or something like that for the school auction. By and large local places are significantly better than chain food. And, other than being fast, I'm getting no other benefit from fast food. I can go to pretty much anything but the most expensive local sit-down places for almost the same price as fast food. I haven't been in a McDonalds, Burger King, etc. since my kids were home and much smaller. I see no reason to change that.

Is anybody ready to talk veggie burgers yet? For me, the undisputed king of the veggie burgers was the spicey bean burger from Burger King. Now sadly discontinued and thus Burger King are dead to me.   |
