Guess who has two thumbs and a positive COVID test? THIS GUY! Mostly feeling fine. I had the most recent booster about a month ago, and for my money, I'm a fan. I barely even noticed I was sick. I was fatigued and had chills last night, so I went to bed early and took a test in the morning. I already feel ~85% better. My test was instantly and vividly positive. My wife had the faintest line. Both kids negative so far. I am crossing my fingers they dodge it. I'm in the middle of a bout of Covid for the second time right now. It started off like a little mild cold on Monday, but really hit me the second and third days. I still don't feel as bad as I did the first time I had it, which I put down to the less potent variants that are about nowadays, but I still feel pretty rough. My wife hasn't caught it thus far, and we're hoping that remains the case. I had my third booster back in February and will be eligible for my fourth in just a few weeks time (though that will have to be delayed slightly, as I think you have to have been clear for 4 weeks or more???). Hope you feel better soon. Ugh, sorry to hear that, but like you, I am glad it's the (relatively) less potent strains. I hope you recover quickly and that your wife dodges it, too. I don't recall the time, but yes, you are correct. You have to wait some amount of time before getting the booster if you catch it while you are waiting. Funnily enough, low grade congestion and allergy/cold symptoms are just a fact of my adult life, so that alone doesn't even stand out to me, especially with the weather changing. Fatigue and chills were new, though, and that is what tipped me off.

Confessor and impulse, glad you are only dealing with milder strains. and hope your loved ones are able to steer clear. Glad you've both had as many shots as you qualify for. Feel better soon, guys.

Day two of COVID. Other than mild congestion and a slightly runny nose, I feel totally fine. I started feeling more tired than usual at around 9pm so went to bed around 10-10:30 instead of my usual night owl shenanigans. Not sure what combination it is of mild strain, my personal immune system, or recency of covalent vaccine, but I will take it.

I got covid for the second (possibly third) time last month, and despite having all four shots (second booster in April), I was under the weather for a week. Symptoms were just a cough and quite painful sore throat for the first few days, then day five introduced a gradually building fever over the course of the day--99 in the morning up to 100.5 at night--which was then gone the next day. No idea what the point of that was. Sore throat gradually faded over the next couple of weeks, and the cough/lung congestion is still very slowly going away.
I was surprised it was that bad after all the shots and having completely asymptomatic covid the first time, about two years ago, but then I realized that after all the changes in the different strains, I have no idea anymore what the line is between mild and severe. I guess all you can do is keep up with the shots, masking, distancing, etc and hope for the best.
Best wishes and get well soon to all of you afflicted.

Sorry to hear that, Calidore, and I hope any lingering symptoms resolve quickly. It's bizarre how differently every individual is effected by this damn thing.

I will add slightly brain foggy/cozily tired, but that could be because I'm tired and need more coffee. So many of the signs overlap with not being 20 anymore that it's hard to say.

Outside of the actual aging of the body itself, I find myself more content with who I am and not caring what people think too much. Sure I want friends and family to like who I am. But outside that I have enough confidence to be "well if they don't like me I am okay with that" over my younger years when I was trying to please everyone to be liked.
All that said I could really not use this reoccurring lower back pain. Maybe it might be time shop for a new mattress.

You know, in my day, we only had to prepare for less terrifying things......you know, fires and tornadoes!
My father taught for 37 years and my mother for a few, before we came along. I was taking classes towards teaching, after I left the Navy, but decided that I wasn't going to jump through as many hoops as required (despite already having a BS in Economics and 4 years experience as a Naval Officer) to be underpaid and unappreciated. It is unfathomable to think that my military training would have better prepared me to teach in a modern school than any of my course work. You shouldn't need to know how to field-strip an M-16A2 and M1911 to teach children. You damn sure shouldn't need Kevlar.

Without going any closer to politics than necessary to make the point, that New Yorker cover highlights a sad realization my wife and I have come to. Not getting into specifics as many folks would disagree on them, but in total, it has become clear to us that the USA is unwilling and/or unable to find and implement steps to prevent that from happening. With kids in school, and a variety of other reasons that have been building for years, we have decided we are probably going to expatriate. We've begun extensive research and practical steps to get the ball rolling, but the risk that is the price of sending a kid to school here is too high to bear. That cover is particularly impactful as my daughter had an intruder lockdown drill at her school last week. Thankfully the police found it to be a non-credible threat after investigating, but it was a real threat someone made. I live in what is statistically one of the safest cities in the US and this happened. A few years back some high schoolers were murdered within minutes of where we live. I don't know what the exact cause of the problem is or what the best solution would be, but the facts are this just does not happen anywhere else* in the same scale as it does here, and I can't tolerate the risk anymore. I was in high school when Columbine happened, and at the time it was a bizarre freak one-off that none of us could have imagined. Now it's a mainstream set piece of our culture and that is appalling. Thanks for sharing that cover Prince Hal. I wish I could appreciate the beauty in it, but it's too haunting and chilling. Though I'm sure that was the artist's point. *Developed western nations I mean.

In lighter news, I am on day 5 of COVID. I feel 95% my normal self by now. It's been pretty mild overall aside from the congestion and some fatigue/weakness earlier and easier than usual. By last night, I wasn't even feeling that much at all. Slight congestion still, but otherwise wouldn't know I was sick.
My wife also technically barely tested positive, but we needed a flashlight to see her line on the first day, and she's been basically fine the whole time. Somehow and miraculously the kids seem to have dodged it.
All things considered, it seems we blessedly got a pretty mild case which I am very grateful for.

It is October 17. One week ago it was 75 degrees out and shorts weather. Today we have snow flurries. Are we skipping autumn...?
