Something to make a comic-book collecting father's heart proud:
My wife took our older daughter out shopping this afternoon to get some running shoes and soccer gear for the upcoming seasons, and as is her usual practice, our daughter was taking something to read in the car (we live about 15-20 minutes away from the stores, so it's a little bit of a ride). Here's what she had in her hands:
Solo Avengers #17 Avengers Spotlight #24 CONAN THE FREAKIN' BARBARIAN #47
My 9 year-old is carting around a beat-up copy of a 40 year-old comic book with her to read on a shopping trip!
It was from a group of comics I gave her about two weeks ago when I upgraded some of the things in my collection to better copies. She's also been reading a bunch of the old Official Marvel Handbooks from the 80's that I had given her both two weeks ago (all of the Books of the Dead from the Deluxe series) and a handful of the original series that I picked up on Friday for her for $1.
Also, I got her a copy of Marvel Team-Up #131, which is the White Rabbit issue. She read it and immediately told me that it was "awesome"; I gotta love having a kid around to put the silliness of Frog-Man and the White Rabbit in the proper perspective.

I hope she feels better real soon. so sorry to hear about the prices Thank you. She is feeling better since the pain pills give her some relief. I just frustrated with the prescription drug and medical coverage state that this country is in and continues to stay in despite so many other countries having solved these problems long ago.

A bit flabbergasted, an incomplete copy of Captain America Comics #1 with this description...
and graded Poor 0.5
went for over $4K in auction last night at the monthly mycomicshop auction. I know it's a key book, but without its actual cover and missing 2 wraps it still netted that much....I mean if I were spending $4k on a comic I would want it to be complete at least (not that I would ever spend 4grand on a comic).

Question inspired by last week's cover contest. I failed to find my intended entry and was curious if anybody knew what comic I was talking about.
I believe it was a Tick comic from the early 2000s that parodied the introduction of Legion of Superheroes from Adventure Comics. Tick was applying for a team of superheroes, and the two choices on each podium were "yes" and "we'll call you". I found it amusing but struggled to find it.
Perhaps it's not a Tick comic, but something similar? Or perhaps I scrolled right past it in the GCD.

My computer is still down, just waiting on a few cables but it could be a week. My old first gen iPad crashes after every post I make so I may be pretty silent but I'm still lurking.

Rest well good sir. -M I've been slowly working my way through the Discworld books the last few years. I'm going at the rate of about one every two to three months. When I first saw them I just kind of dismissed them. But after having heard so many good things from people whose opinions I respected I decided to give them a try. While not all home runs every one is readable and most are pretty thought provoking. R. I. P.

I've been doing some research ahead of time (for once) on my son's request to be Issac Clarke from Dead Space for Halloween this year, so I've been looking at cosplay to see if someone has pointers or whatever. Just to get some general idea if I have the resources and skills to even pull something remotely cool off for him. There are some seriously skilled people in this hobby. There are some photos I found on deviantart that double took as gameplay shots. Unfortunate to say, the best I am may be able to do for him is Issac ... in the straight jacket at the start of Dead Space 2 I can't fathom the hate I see on the internet by other hobbies that cross lines of interest with cosplayers. It's one thing to spend money and accumulate comics/movies/video games/TV shows/anime ... it's another to make them come to life.

Jeez, those are amazing. Yeah, cosplay seems to really be stepping it up. There were always talented cosplayers, but now they're at movie prop level of detail and not just a couple of them either. Must be fun building all that stuff, but surely not cheap or easy. Also, I'm back up and running. Built (or rebuilt) my first computer ever. Pretty happy with it
