Sorry to hear this for everyone !
Life gets better. I was depressed after my first divorce and worried out of my mind for my children. Slowly, with counseling, therapy, books on the subject, and faith to carry on, it gradually gets better.

Yay, my best friend finally got into university. He's had a very tough life and didn't manage to get his high school degree until last year at the age of 33, so he was very disappointed not to get in immediately and spent another year working odd jobs. He will study to be a social worker, and his life experience will make him awesome at his job I just know. I hope your friend makes it as a social worker, because the world needs more good ones in that field.

So sorry to hear about your mother, your aunt, and your mysterious ailment, and I wish you the best of luck in repairing your friendship, CB. Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm afraid the friendship is beyond repair. We had it out last night and it got ugly very fast. We've been friends for 13 years. I told her a few weeks ago that I had romantic feelings for her, at what unfortunately is a really terrible time in her life as well as mine. But there was no point in hiding it, so I thought we should deal with it. That has turned out to be impossible. Unfortunately, despite our long history together, for her this reclassified me from friend to yet another guy trying to get in her pants, so pretty much everything I do or say she looks at suspiciously through the lends of me trying to get with her. She just completely lost all trust in me, which is extremely painful given how close we have been, and she's been throwing it in my face ever since. I finally called her out on it last night, and she went ballistic on me. I just don't think there's any going back.

As nice and caring a friend as you might have been, revealing your own romantic feelings and ambushing her with them have changed your friendship equation at a time when your timing couldn't be more lousy. She needs a friend who won't use her loneliness, lack of self-esteem and confidence against her. Sure you probably care enough about her not to, but now you've put yourself in the same category as those who would try to. And in all likelihood, the homing pigeons have already been trying. I'm sorry to twist the knife in your back, but ask yourself honestly, did you f**k up? Yes you did. If you want to save your friendship with her, leave her alone for a bit, and let her come to you.

Oh, I am going to leave her alone. There are a lot of factors here that I'm not getting into, but what's been going on between us has pretty much become mutually assured self destruction. As well as a self-fulfilling prophecy; this sort of thing has happened with her and other male friends a bunch of times in the past, and I swore it wouldn't happen with us, but it's like Hawkman and Hath-Set. It's just the same downward cycle that apparently can't be stopped. So no good is going to come of pushing anything at this point.
As far as her coming to me, I don't think that's ever going to happen.

Unrequited love that results in a meaningful relationship only happens in movies.

MY DAD/FATHER UPDATE
I was gone for nearly 3 hours this afternoon because my brother needed my assistance to help watch his three grandkids because my brother and his son had to take care of my Dad who got in an accident today and totalled the other car real badly. It took my brother nearly 2 hours to resolve this problem and my Dad got his keys for his car taken away for good.
Now, he has to pay the damage of the other car of which it was totalled beyond repair and his insurance company will handle the young lady whose airbag was deployed and gotten several bruises in her left shoulder and face. Thankfully no broken bones and she was released from the hospital 2 hours after the accident. She will be issued a rental car for three weeks until a more permanent solution comes to place. She is a real sweetheart of a lady. I've met her just briefly.
My Dad car is also totalled and he was told not to drive anymore and now by State Patrol his license is now revoked and will be issued an identification card instead. His car is now owned by the insurance company and any monies left over will be rewarded to the young lady and thank goodness she is not pressing any charges against my Dad who is 86 years old. He isn't hurt at all. I'm so grateful for that too.
Now, my nephew is being assigned by my brother to handle the driving for my Dad about twice a day for coffee and dinner and my Dad is forced to pay for his meals (dinners) pretty much everyday except Saturdays and Sundays. So, I will gone in the mornings to help babysitting my nephew three kids ages 7, 5, and 2. His wife is expecting a 4th child in October. So, I will be gone in the morning from 9am to 11am taking care of the kids for them on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
Anyway, it's a mess and now my Dad who have dementia will be placed in assisted living in 1 or 2 months from now and that's would ease the burden of my nephew for good.
So, that's what happening with me and my family today.

Sorry to hear this MG. I fear for the day when that's one of my parents.
Remember how great it was to get your first set of keys ? Imagine how crushing it would be to have those taken away. That's not easy for anyone, but ultimately necessary of course.
Some of those assisted living centers are pretty nice.

I took one of our dogs to the vet last week because he has developed a problem with his front legs collapsing, well more like his feet not getting the message to deplow properly, so he lands on his wrists/knuckles and then faceplants. Vet 1 says he could do a whole bunch of x-rays and tests, but doesnt have the gear to rest for what he suspects and will refer me to a University vet School in a city 45 minutes away(no problem, my lady works over there). He also says they will just repeat any tests he does so save our money and just go see... Vet 2, at the University, luckily we got an appointment for early Mon morning and took Zeus over. The consultation leads to the 90% probability that he has a condition called "wobbler" a degenerative spinal disease relatively common to larger dogs. To treat this is a $3,000 surgery, which offers a chance to prolong the effects, but not cure (incurable). Along with this is the chance he could be in recovery for up to 3 months. So we agree to a CT scan which will confirm or deny the prognosis, $2,000 for this (incl. the consultation and overnight stay etc).
Today I get a phone call to say that the CT scan has revealed that it isnt "wobbler" after all, and that they would like him for another night to allow a specialist to observe him. The option is there to have an MRI done, $3,000, however this will only offer the possibility of identifying something for which there is no cure(whatever conditions are left which the CT scan cant identify are incurable). The vet says that the remaining possibilities are all obscure Rottweiller genetic conditions, and is hoping the specialist can narrow it down to the right one.
So through an afternoon of tears, we concluded yesterday that we wouldnt have them operate on him, as this wouldnt offer any increase to his quality of life. We want him to have as normal a time as possible for however much longer we are blessed to have him. Hes an amazing dog, gentle and friendly, loves making friends with new people, and devoted to his "sister" Juno(our bitch).
Tomorrow, hmm ... more tears I guess, some hope there is some light at the end of the tunnel, but really just resigned to some hard news and maybe some hard decisions to make.

Yikes, Mecha & Pak, my heart goes out to both of you. I've been in the same positions. My mother has been in a nursing home for years due to Alzheimer disease. And we've faced end of life decisions for a couple of our cats, as well as the only dog we ever had dying suddenly. Prayers and best wishes to you and everyone else here dealing with issues.
