Sorry to hear about your Rottweiler, Pak. I had a female Boston Terrier (got her in 1993 and she only lived seven years) that had epilepsy and it was hard to watch her have seizures.

I saw this graffiti on the forecourt of a Shell garage near my home today. You certainly can't argue with the sentiment, but the spelling leaves a little to be desired. Or maybe I'm wrong and this was scrawled by someone who feels passionately about the plight of heavy goods vehicles.   |

Hey thanks guys, its good to have a shoulder, though I by no means intend for my problem to seem as bad as Mechas, or the personal issues a lot of you good folks are fighting. (God is it a geek thing that we're so friggin fragile  ) Zeus will be ok God willing, and if not, well all part of the plan huh. Hes loved, and will have the best life we're capable of, so we cant complain. As for you fullas, well thanks for being there for us to unload on, I never would have believed how valuable this place is. Youse feel like family(well better than cos mine are...hmmm) and you need to know how good you are. |

A rather large convenience store chain here in the states, Circle K made probably millions of styrofoam soda cups advertising how the cup keeps your drink "artic cold". |

(...) will be placed in assisted living in 1 or 2 months from now and that's would ease the burden of my nephew for good. At some point that becomes unavoidable, much as we'd wish otherwise. My own dad became dangerous to himself and others, and his not sleeping at night made watching over him impossible. At some point he did things like inadvertantly starting fires or jamming things in power outlets, and the look of helplessness and puzzlement on his face was heart-breaking. Dementia is the cruelest blow that old age can give us and our families. My heart goes out to your family. |

I'm taking an over night road trip to a place in upstate NY called Howes Caverns tonight. I've never been but the website looks nice. They have a hotel that we are staying at for tonight. My wife knows we are going somewhere but she doesn't know where exactly. She's a bit giddy with anticipation.

Another of mine: the family sign, a nexus of annoyance. How do I loathe thee? Let me count the ways, using this random example...  The grammatical: A misused apostrophe leads to imprecision and confusion. Who is "The Stram"? Is "The Stram" a nickname, like "The Drake" on Seinfeld? ("Gotta love the Stram!")
Is it a creature or legend of some sort whose abode is to be approached with caution and/or veneration? If it is the Family Stram (the Stramily?) that resides here, at least move the apostrophe after the s! Even though using any apostrophe here is an ostentatious gild of the lily. Which leads to... The psychological: Why do we need to know it's your "family cottage"? A snobby way of telling us peasants that this is your second home, even though its probably bigger than any three of your neighbors' homes put together? A cry of passive-aggressive insecurity to make sure we know just how frikkin' well-off and important you are? The political: The flag? Really? Is this a welcome or a warning? (Though I guess we should be glad it's not the Stars and Bars.) Isn't this just a supposed patriot's way of displaying the flag without having to go to all the trouble to put it out and take it down every day? It's the equivalent of your house wearing a flag pin in its lapel. |
