The government is itching to take away our rights. They are looking forward to the time when they can be the ONLY ones with guns. Again, these are scary times. I don't see much evidence of that, why are you letting irrational fears whip you up into a frenzy? I'm not in a frenzy , just discussing it in this forum to see what you guys think.

What is your solution to the consequences of racism and bigotry in the public sector? Making racists and homophobes a protected class, so it's actually illegal for a private corporation to choose not to do business with someone based on their racism and bigotry? There are consequences to all of our actions but I think that everyone should have a right to their opinion. Everyone. And we do have a right to our opinion. Donald Trump has a right to say whatever he wants, so does Hulk Hogan. The government in no way is silencing them.

Donald Trump said what he said in public and I don't have a problem with what happened but Hogan was ratted out by a old sex tape. He lost money from his Wrestling gig because someone sold a tape with his private thoughts that no one was supposed to ever hear. Not nice.

You went from "the government is taking away our freedom of speech" with no explanation as to why or how you think this is happening and then erratically jumped to gun rights, again without explanation or rational arguments in favor of your opinion. That kind of manic movement suggests a frenzy to me and I find it troubling to see a friend act that way, when I've seen this kind of thing in the past from other friends it usually stems from some other issue that's bothering them that for one reason or other they cannot express. I say frenzy not to put you down but because it troubles me to see you communicate this way.

The government had nothing to do with that, he still has his rights. He can join Stormfront and say anything he wants about minorities, he won't go to jail. The feds won't come take his computer or cut off his internet. He's not in a protected class because he likes to use the N word though. And the only possible solution to this supposed problem is to make racists a protected class that private businesses are banned from discriminating against. I think we have far more pressing concerns.

I'm pretty annoyed by the Hogan thing too, I idolized him as a kid and what's happened seems wrong to me but that doesn't mean our rights are being infringed upon. It just means that in this highly polarized society business' are afraid of back lash. Is that occasionally unfortunate? Of course. But such is life in the spotlight. I hope that the Hulkster can make it back and it all blows over.

I'm not ready to classify everyone that has said the N word as a racist. Everyone I've ever met has said a racist comment. Everyone.

That doesn't make it any better.

You're still not explaining what the solution to your worries are. Should the WWE be allowed to choose who they pay six and seven figure salaries to represent their companies or not?

There are standards expected of people in that kind of a position and any kind of indiscretion can cost them that position.

Society isn't doing it either, you're allowed to say anything you want and always have been here in the US...but you've never been free of the consequences associated with that speech. You say something I find offensive and I'm free to call you out on it and your first amendment rights have never protected you from that and hopefully never will.

Is the issue that liberals aren't as susceptible to social backlash as the conservatives on what they are vocal about?

That doesn't make it any better. I can see how it could look that way. But I don't see it that way. If society is saying anything, it's saying, you don't get to be an asshole without there being any repercussions. But honestly I don't think that's what is happening in most cases. What is happening is that corporations pay huge money to celebrities. And when those celebrities say stupid stuff it has the potential to seriously damage their bottom line. So rather than take the hit to their bottom line, they cut their losses. It's business...which is supposed to be worshiped in the U.S. Is Hogan a racist? I don't know. I really don't care. Is what happened fair? Maybe not. But it isn't an assault on our freedoms. And it certainly isn't a free speech issue.
