Holy frijoles!!! That's pretty scary!
I can imagine how angry he is, but I'm glad to see he got through the ordeal without losing a limb or an eye.

Let's hope it doesn't affect him professionally, with his ability to earn an income.
The cornea part concerns me, but the rest is fairly superficial.
My parents had a soda distributorship years ago, and we had to be careful with the big CO2 tanks. If they got punctured they could turn into projectiles.
Thankfully that never happened.

I went to a botany convention today, where there were lectures/presentations on various botanical topics. It was very interesting; botany has never been my forte, as I always preferred zoology. I was also pleasantly surprised at how many younger people attended the event. I'm used to being the only 20-something in the bunch, and that can feel a bit lonely. This day has sparked my interest to dust off my field guides on wildflowers and trees and get myself acquainted with local flora.
EDIT: I originally typed 'local herbs and trees', and I'm in the Netherlands. The joke really writes itself from there, doesn't it?

When I was in school, I wanted to study biology, but depression got in the way, and I never really took serious efforts to return to it. But as of last year, I regularly join excursions of a local field biology organisation, which is real fun. I live close to a small forest, and sometimes I see buzzards flying over my neighbourhood. I don't remember this ever being brought up here in 'Meanwhile' but you're a biologist, RR? What's your field of expertise?

Back up and running online again. Our service went down in the wee hours of the morning Friday night/Saturday morning and AT&T had to come out and rewire the outside lines from the street to our house, and we didn't get back up and running until about a half hour ago. No tv, no house phone, and no internet for about 30 hours. Inconvenient to be sure, but a nice break too.

Say hello to my dinner tonight: You had me at bacon, but then you kept going, not only with mac-and-cheese but also pot pie.
