Stay away from sites like Monster, Indeed, and other sites that aggregate postings from multiple sources. You have to really sift through a lot of crap to find anything promising, and you'll get bombarded with "opportunities" that are barely relevant, if even, to your skillset and experience; I got lots for financial planning, insurance sales, and real estate agents. Also, get ready for lots of spam for work-from-home scams, franchise ownership, and other garbage. Mileage can vary. The last three positions I've held since 2012 have been a result of being head-hunted through Monster. You quickly learn to distinguish between spam, cattle calls and legitimate listings. I used LinkedIn and some others as well, but for whatever reason, Monster was the one that delivered. It also helps to update your profile frequently to keep it fresh.

hondobrode and thwhtguardian, I'm so very sorry for both of you. Hopefully doors closing will lead to better doors opening. It's a year of transition for many of us, it would appear.

It's small potatoes compared to what some are going through right now but I may be losing my job next week. The company has decided they don't really need department managers so they are doing away with the position; we have first shot at the new position of service manager but there are only 5 of those and 14 department managers going in for them so it's going to be tough. Anybody had better luck at a particular job search site over another? Sorrry to hear this. Sounds like the same kind of problems are facing Lowe's as are facing Macy's, Sear's, etc. Are they closing stores as well? Best of luck, wht. Hope you are able to stay where you are and not have to job-hunt. No store closures, and the company is performing fairly well...it's just not #1 so they're trying to find a way to increase the profit margin a wee bit to boost confidence in investors.

Is it Home Depot that's in first place? I call it "Hell Depot." Too many shoddy products, poorly trained staff, each of whom I am sure is underpaid. It's the Walmart of home stores. Lowe's is so much better.

Lowe's is so much better. Hear, hear! I bought a washer/dryer combo from Lowe's for one of my daughters at Christmas and the experience was a breeze. Took about 10 minutes online to set the whole thing up, including take-away of the old units. Didn't even have to change out of my PJs. Delivery was prompt, professional, and painless. Would recommend. Wait, this isn't Yelp?

No kidding, my comment to my supervisor was, "If they really wanted a short term profit margin increase wouldn't have deciding not give them selves all 50 million bonuses shaved far more dollars off the operation costs?" It got a pretty good laugh.

What do you mean "today's version?" cap·i·tal·ism ˈkapədlˌizəm/ noun an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.

I had a dream last night that I was on the set of Superman II and Sarah Douglas, dressed as Ursa, was coming on to me. Weird.

I know, but making a profit does not necessarily equate "make as much profit as you can even if it means screwing everybody over, including your employees and customers". George Bailey is a capitalist; heck, he's even a banker. He's supposed to make a profit. But he doesn't let his profit motive trump his morality, and I wish more real life capitalists saw how much better for everyone such an attitude is! Which might explain why I'm not rich yet, nor ever will be.

Apparently, "Pharma Bro" Martin Shkreli had a handful of dog poop thrown in his face and I'm having a hard time condemning that action.
