An update: The earliest I can get to a dentist is February 3, which means I need to abstain from long hours (well, any hours, truthfully) on the computer between now and then. In the interim, I'm working on setting up for speech-to-text. It's not the greatest of solutions but it's that or choose between my teeth and my writing career. So I will continue to be a mostly phantom presence here until my appointment. Cei-U! I summon the stone cold drag! Oy! Hang in there my friend. Hope the speech to text allows you to remain productive in the interim. -M It sounds like it'll be a drastic re-adjustment after writing the other way all these years - but it also sounds like it could be very freeing if Cei-U can get used to it over time. Easy for me to say, since I don't have to try it myself - and I know I'd find it very difficult to master if I did have to do it.

Susan and I are getting the divorce. Told her my intentions yesterday and we're working out logistics now. I don't hate her, in fact, I love her, but that's why I'm leaving. She didn't yesterday, but I think today, she understands. We're going to stay in touch, just not under the same roof, in the same state. Crazy ? Sorry Hondobrode. Thanks icctrombone We do share a lot of things, but some things we don't and it's simply irreconcilable. She's not going to change, and I'm not either, not at our ages. That's ok. That doesn't mean I have to hate her or vice-versa. We're still going to stay in touch and connected but live our separate lives. Neither one of us is involved with anyone else, and frankly, neither one of us have the energy or motivation to marry again. I'm ok by myself and moving back to Iowa to be with the rest of the family. I'll be traveling the state with my new position and probably get over to Nebraska to see two brothers and my son.

Man, this is so sudden and I feel numb when people get divorced and can't do anything about it and I hope it will work out for the better. I understand that you got a new position and able to do some traveling and going back to Iowa to reconnect with your own family that will help you out. Hang in there and I hope that you'll make it work with all parties involved.

It's small potatoes compared to what some are going through right now but I may be losing my job next week. The company has decided they don't really need department managers so they are doing away with the position; we have first shot at the new position of service manager but there are only 5 of those and 14 department managers going in for them so it's going to be tough.
Anybody had better luck at a particular job search site over another?

Anybody had better luck at a particular job search site over another? Sorry to hear this. Looking for a new job sucks, but hopefully you'll be staying on with them and won't have to do it, so you can pass this info along to them. I used LinkedIn a lot (it's the site that I found my current job through). It tends to be more professionally focused, and you can set up some good automated agents to help you find things you might actually want or be qualified to do. Stay away from sites like Monster, Indeed, and other sites that aggregate postings from multiple sources. You have to really sift through a lot of crap to find anything promising, and you'll get bombarded with "opportunities" that are barely relevant, if even, to your skillset and experience; I got lots for financial planning, insurance sales, and real estate agents. Also, get ready for lots of spam for work-from-home scams, franchise ownership, and other garbage. Keep us up to date, and I'll be praying you don't have to go through with this.

Thanks Wicked mountain and Richard. I've never used Linkedin before but i've heard of it so i'll check it out. If the rumors I've been reading on Topix about the lowe's restructuring are true, even if I don't get one of the 5 spots i could have a temp position for up to six months but that's only rumor at this point. I should know more at the meeting on Tuesday.

Anybody had better luck at a particular job search site over another? I've used Linkedin, still a member, and was quite happy with it when I searched for a job many years back. And yes, it's mainly for professionals so it should be right up your alley. Go for it and best of luck This varies from state to state and city to city but there are library branches that are quite helpful with job searches. They have seminars, resume help, mock interviews and specialized pcs for job hunting. Sometimes it's good to job-hunt outside of the house

Sounds like the same kind of problems are facing Lowe's as are facing Macy's, Sear's, etc. Are they closing stores as well? Best of luck, wht. Hope you are able to stay where you are and not have to job-hunt.
