"So there we were walking through a nature reserve in Florida when a dinosaur walked by..." My God! That thing is huge! -M That's what Michael Scott said...

Thanks everyone !
It's a little sore this morning but ok.
I'll only be able to operate off of my iPhone for the next little while. The PC is getting packed up and going to my parents in rural Iowa. They live in a valley and my AT&T doesn't reach down there (Sprint didn't before that).
Everyone up there uses Verizon. It's about the only carrier that works up there.
My parents internet is by satellite and it's pretty slow.
To not bog down their system even worse, I'll have to hop into my SUV and drive to the top of the hill to get signal and be online.
I'm crashing with them for a couple of months or so to save up some deposit money and either rent a place or just outright buy something in Des Moines. I'm not moving again after that. My entire family is in the "neighborhood" between Lincoln NE and DSM. If I rent now, then it gives me time to buy in a year or so.
A friend is helping me with the bigger stuff tomorrow I can't load myself and then Friday I leave early and head to Lincoln to see A. my brother dying of cancer, B. my youngest brother going through a divorce at the same time, and C. my son.
The first two have birthdays this week so most of the fam will be celebrating with us. Saturday morning I push off for western Iowa to my parents to unload and settle in for a couple of months.

I just attended a concert by pop/R&B singer JoJo, whom some of you might remember from her 2004 hit 'Leave (Get Out)', when she was only 13. I've really been enjoying her more recent EPs and album. I was glad I could have the opportunity to see her live, as this is only the second time she came to Holland, and I missed out on her previous gig last year. So for me this was a really special evening, I had been anticipating it for a while, and she definitely did not disappoint. Awesome experience. Thank you JoJo. There is no emoticon that can properly translate the grin on my face.

Probably this weekend I'll get hooked up at my parents and be back in touch, or I might just drive in to the library too.

I fired my boss
Went to his office on Monday and gave my notice. Next week, after 43 years of mostly uninterrupted work, I'll be free. Retired. Filed on line for Social Security which was extremely easy to do. Took all of 15 minutes. My corporate stress-full responsibilities is now on a countdown. Will put my ties on Ebay for auction. Will put my shoes up on the desk. Will not have to attend every meeting the company calls. Will not be staying late at work or work at home. WILL NOT COMMUTE hallelujah. Will feed pigeons on a park bench. Will go weeks without setting an alarm. Will finally see what this Oprah thing is all about. Will shop in stores when not crowded during weekday afternoons. Will post too much on these boards

Would I sit at home consuming bowl after bowl and cry for help on the weight-loss thread? Or would boredom and ennui wash over me as time passed on pointlessly and pudding all but tasted like ashes in my mouth? And then came a revelation. I could eat pudding at any time I wanted, anywhere I wanted. I could whip up a fresh batch at 3 in the morning.I could take pudding to the park on Monday at 11AM. Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose.

Thanks to @mechagodzilla link to some online free comics, I just read my first two digital comics. Detective Comics #815, 816. A two part story about Zsasz. Pretty good, and really like the art. Plus there's a lot more than just Detective Comics. LOTS of free comics to read. So I wanted to post it here if anyone missed it in Jugger's thread about Batman's 50 deadliest villians. And thank him for posting this. I may prefer paper comics, but these are FREE!! :-) Thanks again Jugger!
Edited ... sorry for the mistake RR.

(link deleted) Thanks for sharing what seems like a great opportunity, but readcomiconline is willfully giving access to material while disregarding DC's copyright. Their stated defense, that they do not actually host comics but only give access to things that have been uploaded by others to image hosting services, is transparent. In other words, this is pirated material. Sorry for being the bearer of bad news.

Roquefort RaiderWhen I read your post - I've immediately deleted my bookmark from my PC. I hate pirated stuff and I'm sad to see people out there take advantages of us. Thanks for the heads up.
