Wow, that's unexpected. I haven't read much Invincible, but a friend of mine is a big fan. Sorry man. Whenever a beloved series ends, I'm always conflicted. It makes me sad to see it go, but it's worse for me to see a once-great series keep going past when it should end. Too bad Matt Groening didn't get that memo. The money is too tempting.

Too bad Matt Groening didn't get that memo. The money is too tempting. Oh I don't blame the man. I'd do the same. I just stopped watching it around 14-15 season or so. Just in the romantic viewer/show relationship it was sad to see it's degradation into unfunny. I have a feeling AMC and Kirkman aren't going to get that memo either.

Canceling Invincible isn't the same as canceling a TV show. Comics bring in chump change in comparison. You're not leaving that much money on the table.

For me, I thought the Simpsons degraded into unfunny when it went from a short on the Tracy Ullman show to it's own standalone series. I watched a couple of the first few episodes and thought it had lost the charm it had as a short on the variety show and haven't really watched it since. So to each their own. -M

Have I just not been around enough or has DE not posted in awhile? Anyone hear from him elsewhere? Sorry, don't mean to worry anyone. I've been around just mostly keeping up on mod stuff and a couple threads on the Community forum, like Meanwhile. Just too little time and too much going on.

Here goes nothing! This is my first public posting using the speech recognition software on my computer. I finally bought a microphone, which is now properly installed, leaving me no more excuses for making a change I should have made long ago but was too damn stubborn to make without being forced. In that sense, my dental woes may turn out to be a blessing in disguise. It hasn't been easy the last few weeks staying off the computer, not being able to either work or play. I'm the kind of guy who has to feel productive on a daily basis. At any rate, I can get back to work on my book projects now so that's least one source of stress in my life gone. Anyway, I just wanted to drop by and let you guys know I was up and functioning again. Sometime in the next few days, I will work out the statistics and get the wrap up for Classic Comics Christmas 2016 posted. Cei-U! I summon the lightning… out loud! Now that you've had a chance to use it a bit, how do you like it? Hopefully it's a lot easier on you than the old way you typed. Also hope it's better than the Microsoft Outlook voice-to-text we have at work. When I get a voicemail, it turns it into a text that is usually hilarious in how far off it is from what they actually said.

Just got to love unexpected car expenses and the inannity of some business practices.
So back on New Years Eve Day I discovered one of my tires was flat. No big deal, started up the air compressor in the garage, filled up the tire and the air held. Brought it to the tire repair place and they couldn't find a hole or needed repair, but when I bought the car used in '09 the dealer had replaced the wheels/tires with a sportier low profile tire (which was the least appealing feature for me on an otherwise very attractive used car in terms of mileage, condition, features and price). The tire seemed sound and replacement tires were expensive, and replacing the low profile wheels with standard wheels was extremely expensive, so we decided to ride it out until spring and make the decision then.
Coming home from work Saturday night, the car felt off and I thought a tire may be low/flat and suspected the tire we had attended to may have some sort of slow leak we missed and I would check it out in daylight on Sunday, but Sunday came and I was pretty much useless because of an intense sinus headache (the last gasp of the sinus infection I had been dealing with the past week and a half) that pretty much incapacitated me for most of the day. No problem though, I had Monday and today off as well. So yesterday I went out and checked the tire and it was fine. Must have been something else then, until a few hours later when I let the dog out and noticed a different tire was flat. Examining the tire, I noticed I had picked up a screw that had gone through the tire and it wasn't holding any air I was trying to put in. Well it was almost dark and being sick I didn't want to get on the ground to jack up the car in the cold wet early evening, so decided to take advantage of our roadside assistance, which I would call in the morning. Have them come, take off the flat tire, put the donut on and see if I can go to the tire place and get the tire repaired.
Roadside shows up, jacks up the car, takes the tire off and we realize the inside wall of the tire tore too, so it's not repairable. Ok, so will have to deal with a donut for a day until I can get new tires (might as well replace them all since I've got issues with 2). Go to put the donut on and the serviceman whistles and says you got more bad news. When they replaced the wheels with the low profile, the put new bolts on for hte new tires, but these bolts were shorter, too short for the donut to be put on an secured with the nuts, only a tread or two of the nut would catch and the donut would pull free on just about any turn he said.
Start calling around to local tire places to find none of them have the size of tire I need (these low profiles were not common I guess) and most places quoted me a week to ten days to get the tires. I could replace the wheels and tires, but all told that looked to be about $1500-$2K, more than I wanted to spend and I still needed ot get the car towed to where ever I was going to have it done. SO finally I contacted the custom shop where the dealer had the tires done, he doesn't have them in stock but can order them and get them the next day. Ok, great I say, can you order them now? Well phone orders with a credit card have a surcharge, which is waived if you order them in person-well no way I am getting there today, so will have to order them tomorrow when I have access to my wife's car to go to the shop. How much for installation then? Oh, we don't do mounting or balancing here, you'll have to take it to a shop, we work with these (he gives me a list). Ok fine, I call them and the prices aren't terrible for mounting and balancing. So will you be able to have the tires delivered to the shop that will mount and balance them? No, you'll have to pick them up here and bring them over to the shop...no way 4 tires are going to fit into my wife's little Yaris...and if the shop orders the tires not the custom shop it's a week to day day turn around for some reason (they work with different suppliers I guess). They do have a guy who will transport the tires for a fee though....
So now I am deciding if I want to spend 4 x as much to get the new wheels and standard size tires, or go through the hassle of ordering a set of new tires of the same type to save $1500 but deal with all the headaches of the logistics. Either way, my wife and I have to share a single car for both of us to get back and forth to work the rest of the week.
Leaning towards saving the $1500 and dealing with the hassle because that money was earmarked for a home improvement project for the spring that really shouldn't be delayed, but I really don't like the idea of going through all this and still not having a usable spare/donut in the car should something else happen to a tire after I have them replaced. Just a little miffed at whoever made the decision to change the tires at the dealership without following through on the logistical effects like having a usable donut available, but can't go back in time to address that, so just have to bite the bullet and make a decision for moving forward. The car is 10 years old, but only just passed 50K miles on it, so it has a lot of life in it still, I just don't wan tto have to dela with this kind of hassle again, but buying a new wheel of the right type for a spare costs almost as much as getting a set of 4 new wheels of the standard type, so that's not an option either.
Sigh, third world problems, I know.

Have you checked Craigslist or local car groups on Facebook? Lots of folks sell their factory rims when they buy aftermarkets and sometimes they even have the tires with them.

Ive never watched the shorts. And season one is still a least favorite of mine. I'd say select episodes in season 2 are good and season 3 is where it starts being stellar. But as you say to each their own. We seem to have similar tastes in Simpsons, too. I agree, S1 is ehhh. The camping episode is fantastic, though. Season 2 it starts to find its footing, and season 3 gets really good. Seasons 4-7 are unmitigated comedic gold from that time period. Season 8 is also really good, but that's where it starts to wobble. There are still some good episodes for a while, but the ratio definitely shifts pretty negatively after that. I stopped watching in the early 00s except for the odd episode or two every handful of years. Around 3-4 years ago they had some surprisingly good ones, but still nothing that hit the early years. But yeah, Invincible. You guys should read it! It is a little slow to start, but once it gets going it's kind of .. "ehh this is alright I guess. I'd say its ohhhhhhMYGOD!!!! WHAT???!" Starts with the "what if my dad was Superman" coming of age thing, and then just goes nuts and turns everything on its head. I have reread the series start to finish several times, and I daresay once the last few issues are out, it'll be time for another read through.

Ugh, mrp, what a pain in the ass. I hate unexpected car issues. If you can afford it and think you'll keep the car long enough to go through another set of tires, you might want to just bite the bullet and go back to standard. It's more expensive now, but sounds like it would be much easier to maintain. Have you seen if you can find an online parts dealer or local junkyard to get the wheels cheaper?

It's more expensive now, but sounds like it would be much easier to maintain. Have you seen if you can find an online parts dealer or local junkyard to get the wheels cheaper? I actually had a productive visit to the tire shop today. The guy I talked to explained that their credit card processor charges 4% per transaction rather than 1% when the account number is manually entered rather than swiped, hence the fee for phone orders, and my wife, who is a banker, confirmed this is becoming a common practice with a lot of the processing companies. Don't like it, think it's a terrible practice by the processing companies, but understand why shops would charge more for that kind of order at least. I ordered the set of 4 low profile tires for the wheels I currently have, and he apologized for the inconvenience and a) offered to take the tires over to the garage that will be mounting it when he takes a bunch of other stuff over Friday morning at no charge, and b) said he would talk to the garage to see if he could arrange for me to get the shop's rate for tire mounting rather than the garage's standard rate, which would save me $10 per tire. He also recommended a couple of parts yards where I might be able to find a donut of the right size on the cheap, and a co-worker of mine who used to work at a parts shop is going to call some folks he knows to see about finding a usable donut for me as well, so things are working out a bit better than yesterday. Still expensive and inconvenient, but not quite as annoyingly frustrating a process as it started out to be yesterday. I appreciate the opportunity to vent though and thank those that took the time to read it. -M

Today I start a week off from work. (My vacation is actually 11 days counting my off days and weekends.) I plan to go to comic shops in the nearing states and hunt for back issues. I happened to run into a place in NJ called Main Street Comics and they had over 60 boxes that had 1 dollar comics and I cleaned up. I want to see if there are other stores blowing out older stuff.
