Hey all, Back but just briefly. I'll be migrating to forums which are a bit more friendly towards Trump and his administration. The general sentiment here just gets me frustrated on a daily basis and it's something I don't really need at this point. I can't change the way any of you feel, and likewise, I'm not sure how you'd feel if this place was overwhelmingly in support of him. In all other respects...all the best. I'm truly sorry to hear this. One of the most discussed topics between myself and the Mod team is over whether we should continue to have a politics thread. Emotions get stirred, feelings get hurt, and conflicts sometimes arise. However, the counter to this is that it would be a massive overreach of the team's powers to prohibit political discussion. What are the mods going to do: ban someone who refuses to stop respectfully referring to the news? So giving it one dedicated thread is the most logical solution, as it keeps that talk out of the other threads. Thus, you can choose to read that thread or not read that thread. It need not affect your enjoyment of the community if you choose not to read it. Frankly, I don't understand why you can't just avoid that thread if it bothers you that much, but I respect you as a member of this community and respect your decision all the same. You're always welcome back.

I just can't believe RAZORMAID is not here anymore because of the politics thread discussion and I'm sadden by that. Why we can't get along and respect each other opinions without proper judgment. I hope that she does come back and I would like to see more perspectives from Women from this forum because this is a male dominated forum that can't give our women here with the proper respect that they deserve.
I miss her alot.

The Trump victory has really divided friends and even family. I know it's news but people might leave this site because of the hostility.

If we could press a button that said "no politics," we would, but as I explained above, it's not that easy. Better to give folks one place to discuss it instead of allowing it to spill over into other conversations. Unless you want a community run by people who censor and discipline members for discussing topics they do not approve of. Very slippery slope there. Our only restrictions here are family-friendly and respectful. I stand by that. On facebook, you cannot limit what you see by subject matter. Politics are there whether you want them or not. With a dedicated politics thread though, you have that ability to filter here. If you don't want to read about politics, don't go into the politics thread.

Otherwise I'd be advocating the deletion of the Sexy Comic Cover thread along with the Best Looking First Lady thread. Talk about demeaning & sexist content that keeps this forum in the boys' locker room. Might keep females from this site because of the misogyny

If I were a dictator, these would be the first to go. But, so long as they are family friendly (no nudity; no blatantly inappropriate images) and respectful to others (both genders are invited to be sexualized, no one is maligned) members are allowed to express their ideas and feelings there.

The Trump victory has really divided friends and even family. I know it's news but people might leave this site because of the hostility. I am of two minds on this. I think the Politics Thread can be a useful place for serious discussion about the issues of the day and is a good place for folks on either side of the issues to voice their opinion so that the other side can get a glimpse into the mindset and thought process of where their "opposition" is coming from. However, as has happened too often lately, there are significant challenges with that thread. The level of hostility in that thread has risen to new heights and there is more fighting among members. As well, there are some members who have chosen to be quite passive-aggressive, taking a counterpoint made against them and turning it into an ongoing "bit" they put into many of their posts. In either case, it doesn't help the parties involved have a productive conversation but rather deepens the divide and causes too many bad feelings. I would hope that Jez would reconsider, because I find her to be engaging and her point of view on classic comics to be interesting. At the same time, I understand where she is coming from, and while it's easy to say "just ignore that thread", truth is that she knows what goes on in there and has unfortunately gotten to see an uglier side of some members than maybe she had before, which is going to affect how she interacts with them in other threads around the site. All we who stay can do is work to make the Politics Thread a place where meaningful discussion takes place absent of hostility, anger, and childish behavior. If we all act like adults, maybe we can have open and honest conversations that don't turn ugly, and that will help to retain members who don't feel welcome or safe here, regardless of their political position.

I checked out the politics thread once or twice. No interest. I try & avoid it as much as possible. That is the best part of a forum that you can avoid topics you don't want to talk about.

If someone is being rude or combative in that thread, we have a reporting tool. Let the mods know. I've tried to change the tenor of that thread myself on several occasions, but I am not a mod and have no authority to make anyone listen to me. Moreover, that thread depresses and frustrates me, so I tend to keep a distance, as should anyone who feels the same way. So my advice remains to stay away if the thread upsets you, report a post if it upsets you, and otherwise enjoy your stay here.
