I find The Captain's post directly above to be spot-on perfect and worthy of a salute.

If we could press a button that said "no politics," we would, but as I explained above, it's not that easy. Better to give folks one place to discuss it instead of allowing it to spill over into other conversations. Unless you want a community run by people who censor and discipline members for discussing topics they do not approve of. Very slippery slope there. I agree with this. Otherwise I'd be advocating the deletion of the Sexy Comic Cover thread along with the Best Looking First Lady thread. Talk about demeaning & sexist content that keeps this forum in the boys' locker room. Might keep females from this site because of the misogyny I'd rather read a thread about sexy comic covers any day over a thread about pudding.

Hey Shax, I think you SHOULD delete the political thread. In FB I have unfollowed or outright unfriended about 10 people because they can't change the subject. The Trump victory has really divided friends and even family. I know it's news but people might leave this site because of the hostility. I am of two minds on this. I think the Politics Thread can be a useful place for serious discussion about the issues of the day and is a good place for folks on either side of the issues to voice their opinion so that the other side can get a glimpse into the mindset and thought process of where their "opposition" is coming from. However, as has happened too often lately, there are significant challenges with that thread. The level of hostility in that thread has risen to new heights and there is more fighting among members. As well, there are some members who have chosen to be quite passive-aggressive, taking a counterpoint made against them and turning it into an ongoing "bit" they put into many of their posts. In either case, it doesn't help the parties involved have a productive conversation but rather deepens the divide and causes too many bad feelings. I would hope that Jez would reconsider, because I find her to be engaging and her point of view on classic comics to be interesting. At the same time, I understand where she is coming from, and while it's easy to say "just ignore that thread", truth is that she knows what goes on in there and has unfortunately gotten to see an uglier side of some members than maybe she had before, which is going to affect how she interacts with them in other threads around the site. All we who stay can do is work to make the Politics Thread a place where meaningful discussion takes place absent of hostility, anger, and childish behavior. If we all act like adults, maybe we can have open and honest conversations that don't turn ugly, and that will help to retain members who don't feel welcome or safe here, regardless of their political position. I agree with a lot of what you have said. But for a lot of us who have put up with eight years of absolute bullshit from the right about a president who won both the popular and electoral vote decisively to suddenly hear that we need to be "understanding and reasonable" about a snake-oil salesman carnival barker who has the potential to be the worst thing to ever happen to the U.S. is a bit too much. He's something special because he "tells it like it is." But please don't have the audacity to "tell it like it is" if it's not part of the Trump echo-chamber. The hypocrisy is palpable. And as long as politics isn't verboten some of us are going to point out the hypocrisy.

Ah, but I can show anybody, male or female, the pudding thread and be proud of what it contains due to my efforts. Even my grandmother enjoys it Can you make the same claim?

So what is anyone eating for the Superbowl? My family is having tacos! Well, since someone brought it up, I'll definitely top off my Super Bowl meal with some Chocolate Mousse Cups (imported from Germany)I picked up yesterday. The package has 2 individual cups filled with layers of white, milk and semi-sweet chocolate with crunchy chocolate pieces and chocolate sponge cake decorated with white chocolate hearts. And it's family friendly too

Really I could care less about the game. I just enjoy the family being together. I enjoy the AFC & NFC championship games the most.

With a dedicated politics thread though, you have that ability to filter here. If you don't want to read about politics, don't go into the politics thread.
The problem is that it is spilling over into other threads.

The covers being posted are available to anyone for purchase. It's not porn and there's more things on TV that are far more offensive. Does your grandmother enjoy watching the soft porn that is the highlight of television broadcasting? As far as I can tell nobody has left this site because of the sexy cover thread like they have in the politics thread.

Then report it. We have an all-volunteer mod staff. They cannot see everything, nor can they automatically assume someone is bothered by something if no one tells them.
