62 is far too young. The proximity to your birthday makes it doubly cruel. I'm terribly, terribly sorry for your loss, Mormel.

At one point yesterday, I was going to post here to complain about how I'd been up since 2:30 AM because of hip pain, there was nothing good in the house to snack on, and other picayune gripes. Then I saw Mormel's sad news and it put my problems in perspective. Very, very sorry to hear about the loss of your father, my friend.

So 2 days ago, my father passed away at age 62, following suffocation and a cardiac arrest. February 10th is my birthday. Everything is shit right now. I've been struggling with this for the past 50 of so hours, it's the first time I've lost someone this close to me. And it's only now starting to dawn on me that my dad is never coming back. The funeral is next Monday. Sorry Mormel ! OMG that is so horrible and he wasn't old. A close friend of our family, the same age as your dad, almost identical in age, had a bi-lateral (double) pneumonia that took him. A shock. My your dad rest in peace.

Mormel, my condolences as well. I lost my dad many years ago. He never got to see me really grown up, never met my wife or daughter. It sucks, but it will get easier to bear with time.

My condolences, Mormel. Lost my Dad at 61. It still stings 18 years later. Lost my Dad at the same age, almost 10 years ago, and, yeah, it's still hard to take. As others have said though Mormel, you will undoubtedly become stronger from having gone through such an experience and you will carry your Father with you in your heart, where he will still provide fatherly wisdom and help when you need it, for the rest of your days. Like I said before, hang on in there, my friend.

My condolences as well, Mormel.
I've posted here and on the old CBR board about my dad when he passed away five years ago. Please tell us about your father, if you'd like to.

Slept for 10 hours last night. Yesterday I just tried to find a bit of distraction in reading books and watching some shows. Just mostly feel numb. Was about to go to my family today, but can't face them. It's party becausr they're my mom's family and not my dad's. Never knew my dad's family on a personal level. In recent years, he mostly spent time with my mom, even though they no longer had a relationship.
Thanks again for the words of comfort, you guys. Sorry I have trouble 'liking' posts right now, and I really appreciate what each of you has said.
Not quite ready to reminisce.

I don't want to throw a veil of gloom over this thread, so I'm happy to change the subject.
Since last week, I've been checking out a couple of webcam livestreams of nesting albatross; one is located near Dunedin, New Zealand, and is a pair of royal albatross, and the other is a pair of Laysan albatross on Kauai, Hawaii. Each pair is presently raising one chick. I just find it very soothing to look at them, and I'm glad at the opportunity to see their behaviour in real time from miles away here in Holland.
This afternoon I went to the cinema to see Moonlight. Very much enjoyed it, was quite surprised with Janelle Monae in a supporting role, she really holds her own next to the great Mahershala Ali.
Saw a new trailer to Guardians of the Galaxy 2 which I'm surprised no one on CBR is talking about yet. It looks like it'll be fun.
EDIT: Here we go:
